The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is seeking qualified candidates for the Residential Supervisor I (RS I) position. This position will offer candidates extensive opportunities to learn and develop team building, supervisory, and leadership skills while working as part of a highly motivated and progressive management team. The RS I position offers candidates opportunities for professional growth and advancement.

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

  • Coordinate, implement, and supervise the administrative and clinical operations of the homes, including residential program development and implementation and/or compliance of policies, regulations, and procedures.

  • Supervise and evaluate support staff, make personnel recommendations for hiring and promoting staff to maintain adequate staffing patterns

  • Ensure a safe home by participating in and supervising the day-to-day interactions and activities of the residents.

  • Assess individuals' needs, abilities, and the resources needed to develop therapeutic programs in community living skills.

  • Participate in the interdisciplinary team, coordinate, and participate in Individual Service Plan (ISP) implementation; develop, implement, and maintain data collection and records.

  • Monitor and evaluate the physical operation and maintenance of the setting; monitor residential budgets; maintain individuals' funds; assist individuals with expenditures and money management, and act as a liaison to adjust personnel and ensure effective communication between staff.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the fundamental types and problems of mental health disorders and developmental disabilities.

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of interviewing.

  • Ability to do the following:

  • Supervise, plan, and assign work according to the nature of the job to be accomplished;

  • Assess the capabilities of subordinates and available resources; control work through periodic reviews and/or evaluations;

  • Determine subordinates training needs and provide or arrange for such training;

  • Motivate subordinates to work effectively;

  • Determine the need for disciplinary action and either recommend or initiate disciplinary action.

Please Note:

This position is located in the South Valley East Program in Grafton, MA.

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 4:00pm

Days off: Sunday / Saturday

Flexibility is required to meet the needs of the program; Must work at least one early evening shift per week and at least one weekend day per month.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:

At least three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in counseling, guidance, teaching, or therapeutic services for individuals with developmental disabilities and/or chronic mental illness, of which at least one year must have been in either a supervisory capacity.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

A Bachelor's degree in social work, rehabilitation, psychology, sociology, human services, education of people with physical and/or learning disabilities may be substituted for two years of the required nonsupervisory experience on the basis of two years of education for one year of experience..

  • A Master's or higher degree social work, rehabilitation, psychology, sociology, human services or education of people with physical and/or learning disabilities may be substituted for an additional year of the required nonsupervisory experience on the basis of two years of education for one year of experience.

  • One year of education equals 30 semester hours. Education toward a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.

  • No substitution will be permitted for the required supervisory experience.

LICENSES:

Based on assignment, travel may be required. Those employees who elect to use a motor vehicle for travel must have a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's license or the equivalent from another state..

Employees who were initially hired into salary range (A) may advance to salary range (B) at any time after hire based upon the following evidence of level (B) competencies:

  • Satisfactory completion of a full year performance evaluation cycle.
