About this role

The Residential Services Coordinator - Training is responsible for the planning, organizing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating internal and external training programs for correctional and administrative staff designed to achieve specific contract and organizational learning objectives through classroom, practical application, and supervised on-the-job training programs. Some curriculum development may be required to meet the needs of the client.

What you bring to the table


  • High school diploma or equivalent certification required.

  • Bachelor's degree in training, organizational development, communication, related field highly desired.


  • (5) years progressive work experience in leadership and training.

  • Preference given to experience in the fields of healthcare, corrections or law enforcement preferred


  • Certification as training instructor from a national or state recognized organization preferred.

What you will do

  • Identifies facility training needs and develops an annual training plan. Designs, develops, and/or acquires training programs to be implemented within the facility which complies with specific contract and/or organizational training programs requirements.

  • Works directly with management in the development of new employee orientation, preservice, on the job, in service specialized, contractor and volunteer training. Must have the ability and skills to design and develop curriculums and lesson plans. Also, works with management to develop on-the-job and annual training and tracks participation to assure compliance.

  • Documents employee training hours, reviews training records for all staff including contractors and volunteers. Verifies all certifications are current and mandatory training requirements are up-to-date. Advises employees and department heads of re-certification and training deadlines to assure compliance.

  • Administers training programs by coordinating instruction or providing instruction for all needed training. Constantly interacts with employees in the direct application of the material being trained on.

  • Supports immediate and long-range facility goals and compliance requirements by on-going evaluation of existing training programs and developing or acquiring new ones as needed to assure maximum success. Recommends new training programs and provides quantitative support for them.

  • Manages the work flow and identifies and trains part-time/resource trainers to provide supplemental or support instruction.

  • Is knowledgeable of mandated certifications and training requirements and assists employees with information, answers questions, etc. to assure facility needs are met.

  • Ability to write and present complex reports, speeches, and other communication materials that conform to prescribed style and format and are understandable to diverse audiences.

  • Must be able to apply principles of critical thinking to a variety of practical and emergent situations and accurately follow standardized procedures that may call for deviations.

  • Must be able to apply sound judgment beyond a specific set of instructions and apply knowledge to different factual situations.

This position ensures that the Residential Services Coordinators follow all policies and procedures. What you bring to the table Education: * High School diploma or equivalent required. * Associates Degree accepted as 1 year of experience. * Bachelor's Degree accepted as 2 years of experience Experience: * Must be at least 19 years of age. * Prior work experience with psychiatric patients in a hospital or secure mental health setting preferred, with a focus on patient safety. * Must be willing to participate in extensive, ongoing training regarding serious mental illness, de-escalation and intervention techniques, core strategies, patient safety and trauma-informed care. Licenses/Certifications: * None required What you will do * Supervises the provision of services to patients at MASAC in accordance with corporate and facility policies and procedures. * Provides Safety Director with periodic reports of services for the Facility to ensure documentation of compliance with contract requirements. * Performs the duties and responsibilities of a wide range of safety assignments throughout the facility as assigned. * Actively engages with patients in monitoring the environment and well-being of all. * Attends and contributes to treatment plans by providing input into the goals and objectives developed by the treatment team. * Works with the treatment team to institute individual de-escalation strategies and safety plans. * Observes patients and provides de-escalation and redirection as needed. * Performs regular rounds and wellness checks * Controls ingress and egress points for staff and patients * Monitors patient climate * Writes reports pertaining to a variety of subject matters * Monitors medication distribution * Works in a model in which the patient is verbally guided and kept apprised of changes to routine, environment, etc. * Provides supportive oversight of patients during off-site activities including medical visits, court trips and external consults. * Monitors and tracks environmental concerns through inspection of equipment, systems and physical structures to ensure a safe environment for all patients. * Interacts with the public when required * Follows policies and procedures. * Provides emergency responses, along with clinical and medical members of the treatment team, to address patient safety, which may include calming patients' disruptive and/or violent behaviors or threats of self-harm. * Employs use of verbal de-escalation techniques to modify or control patients' disruptive behaviors rather than physical force whenever possible * Perform other duties as assigned.
