Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health, founded in 1986, is an 82 bed facility within the city of Norfolk, Virginia. Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health offers comprehensive mental health programs in Virginia. We are a Universal Health Services facility that provides psychiatrically and medically managed acute, residential treatment, and partial hospitalization for children and adolescents with significant impairments in their social and emotional development.
We provide quality care to children and adolescents in need using quality, evidence based practice treatments. We are accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC), and are licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia and The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS).
Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health is seeking dynamic and talented Full-Time Residential Registered Nurse (RN)- Day Shift.
The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for planning, directing, implementing, and evaluating all aspects of
nursing care on assigned unit for residents and patients. Adheres to Nursing Standards and Policies,
Facility Policies and Procedures and the Nurse Practice Act.
Responsible for nursing care based on the nursing process and in compliance with facility policies and procedures.
Monitors, reports, and documents the residents'/patients' behavior and physiological status.
Administers medications and performs treatments/procedures in compliance with facility and nursing services, policies, and procedures.
Guides the response to patients who are behaviorally out of control or who may be experiencing a medical or behavioral crisis in collaboration with the Director of Nursing, Medical Staff with delineated privileges and Physician.
Responsible for demonstrating clinical competence in the delivery of direct patient care and the implementation of the milieu management program.
Reports accurately and concisely to oncoming shifts regarding conditions of residents both medically and psychiatrically.
An individual must be able to perform each Essential Function of the job satisfactorily. Good verbal and written skills, ability to rotate shifts and programs as necessary, ability to maintain confidentiality of resident information. Demonstrates knowledge of risk factors for violence and determining potential for violent acting out and ability to assess suicidal/homicidal ideations.
Graduation from an approved School of Nursing, which confers RN, AD, or Diploma in Nursing.
Licensed by Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse, CPR
Prefer experience with children and adolescents in psychiatric facility or rehabilitation program.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
The incumbent must by physically capable of providing direct total physical care to unpredictable, potentially violent, mentally ill patients as necessary including lifting, supporting, running towards or away from areas where problems are occurring, and pushing and pulling equipment, such as, wheelchairs, stretchers, and beds.
Ability to perform the facility approved hands on crisis intervention, CPR and First Aid.
