The Residential Counselor is responsible for assisting in the case management and treatment plan implementation for the residents. The Residential Counselor provides direct care services to the residents, including but not limited to: transportation, crisis intervention, and case management.


The position shall have one of the following: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a mental health, health or other appropriate human services related discipline; a license as a registered nurse; a combination of one or more years of college, plus related work or life experience together equaling four years. The individual is required to have at least one year of related work or life experience if the four-year college degree does not meet the requirements above. A license as a practical nurse plus two years of related work or life experience or a high school diploma or the equivalent, plus four years of related work or life experience. This position shall also have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record for a minimum of 24 months.

When "related work or life experience" is relied upon to meet staff qualifications, the personnel file shall clearly document the "related work or life experience" and how it relates to the job duties and responsibilities for the position in which the individual is being hired.


  • On-site consumer resident supervision or support.

  • Communicating observations and information about the consumer resident to the program coordinator, RN and treatment team.

  • Supervising, organizing and supporting recreational and/or socialization activities

  • Transportation.

  • Residential counseling.

  • Crisis intervention services (but not including crisis intervention counseling).

  • Participation in the development of the comprehensive service plan.

  • Participation in individual service coordination activities.

  • Documenting observations, information and services provided to the consumer resident in progress notes.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Lead Counselors supervise teams of Counselors, working to ensure that program staff is prepared to create and maintain a safe environment for all students in a 24/7 residential education context. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to spend the summer living on campus in the heart of New York City, working with passionate young artists from all over the world, and supporting their learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom. Primary Responsibilities: * Create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for high school age students. * Fulfill a leadership role among students and counselors. * Supervise junior counselors. * Manage schedules and daily objectives for counselors. * Develop daily activities, support planned outings, and support social activities. * Facilitate student movement from class/dorms/meals. * Travel with students and ensure that all our young artists arrive to classes, events and meals in a timely manner. * Support and manage meal times. * Communicate with administrators. * Support and adhere to all program rules including student/staff curfew and off campus rules. * Act as a role model to all children attending the programs. * Interact with children, parents/guardians and co-workers in a professional manner at all times. * Understand and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures for High School Summer Conservatory programs. Qualifications: * Supervisory experience required. * Experience working with high school aged students required. * Experience with conflict resolution. * Experience leading group activities. * Experience with creating and maintaining schedules. * Leadership skills with summer program experience. * CPR and First Aid Certification a plus. * Available PT 3/08/19 – 3/09/19 * Available FT 6/09/19 – 8/11/19 * Available to live on campus (counselors live in same dorm building as summer students) from 6/09/19 – 8/11/19. * Must be 18 years of age and must have completed a college degree.
