Position Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Residential Services Supervisor (RSS), the Residential Counselor II is responsible for the care and supervision of the severely emotionally disturbed children (residents) assigned to the facility in accordance with the mandates of public law, state regulations and Agency operating plans. The Residential Counselor II focuses on prevention and intervention in crisis with the residents and trains staff in crisis prevention and intervention as well as assisting the RSS in the management of the residential facility.

Responsibilities:
1.Ensures the safety of youth through direct supervision commensurate with the Agency's supervision levels and current resident functioning in accordance with Agency standards and procedures.
2.Oversees the implementation of trauma informed interventions according to approved client plans and the Agency's Emergency Intervention Plan.
3.Oversees the daily activities of youth and ensures implementation of the Short-Term Residential Therapeutic Program (STRTP) in accordance with safety directives, treatment goals and in strict adherence to daily structure.
4.Demonstrates good intervention skills with all youth and can effectively manage crisis. Responsiblefor responding to crisis and ensuring all required reporting is completed in adherence to Agency policy and procedures.
5.Oversees documentation of issues and events such as Special Incident Reports (SIR), Shift Summaries, Communication Notes entries or memos to Residence Supervisors, and communicates those issues and events to appropriate Residence Supervisor and/or direct supervisor.
6.Assures safety of the grounds and facilities through inspection and when necessary takes immediate action to ensure safety of residents and staff.
7.Provides Residence Supervisor with written feedback on staff performance and/or resident health.
8.Assures adequate staff coverage for the houses and arranges for emergency coverage as needed.

Essential Requirements:
1.Must have a Bachelor's degree or two years' experience working or volunteering in a group home or STRTP.
2.Must possess a valid California driver's license, personal automobile insurance and driving record that meets the standards outlined in the Agency's Personnel Policy; Motor Vehicle Operating Standards.
3.Must be willing to complete a personal background investigation conducted by the State of California; and must meet Community Care Licensing standards for employment.
4.Must be physically and mentally fit to work with potentially violent, severely emotionally disturbed adolescents in accordance with the Agency's Personnel Policy:Physical Fitness Standards and Examinations; must be willing to complete a health screening physical examination that includes a drug screen and a back screen; and must have the unrestricted capacity to employ physical restraint techniques in a professionally safe manner.

Salary Range:

$17.00 - $18.04 hourly

Plans and supervises daily activities of youth and implements the Short-Term Residential Therapeutic Program (STRTP) in accordance with safety directives, treatment goals and in strict adherence to daily structure. 4. Ensures that the physical and medical needs of youth are met in accordance with Agency standards and procedures. 5. Passes and documents the use of medications by residents in strict accordance with the Agency's operating procedures; monitors each resident's progress on his/her medication program; and reports progress in medication compliance. 6. Participates as an active member of the treatment team and Agency. 7. Demonstrates good intervention skills with all youth and can effectively manage crisis. Essential Requirements: 1. Must have a Child Development Teaching Permit – or-12 semester units of Early childhood Education, Adolescent Development, or Foster and Kinship Care Education and have 100 hours experience working with youth – or-Valid certificate as an Alcohol Counselor, Drug Counselor, AOD Counselor and have 100 hours experience working with youth – or- Valid Vocational Training certificate, credential or documentation demonstrating a trade journeyperson who instructs children in vocational skills and has 100 hours of experience working with youth as a mentor, athletic coach, teacher, vocational coach, tutor, counselor- or- life experience in the child welfare, mental health or juvenile justice system. 2. Must be willing to complete a personal background investigation conducted by the State of California and must meet California Community Care Licensing standards for employment. 3. Must be physically and mentally fit to work with potentially violent clients in accordance with the Agency's Personnel Policy: Physical Fitness Standards and Examinations; must be willing to complete a health screening physical examination that includes drug and back screens; must have the unrestricted capacity to employ physical restraint techniques in a professionally safe manner.
