Under the direct supervision of the Residential Services Supervisor (RSS), the Residential Counselor II is responsible for the care and supervision of the severely emotionally disturbed children (residents) assigned to the facility in accordance with the mandates of public law, state regulations and Agency operating plans. The Residential Counselor II focuses on prevention and intervention in crisis with the residents and trains staff in crisis prevention and intervention as well as assisting the RSS in the management of the residential facility.
1.Ensures the safety of youth through direct supervision commensurate with the Agency's supervision levels and current resident functioning in accordance with Agency standards and procedures.
2.Oversees the implementation of trauma informed interventions according to approved client plans and the Agency's Emergency Intervention Plan.
3.Oversees the daily activities of youth and ensures implementation of the Short-Term Residential Therapeutic Program (STRTP) in accordance with safety directives, treatment goals and in strict adherence to daily structure.
4.Demonstrates good intervention skills with all youth and can effectively manage crisis. Responsiblefor responding to crisis and ensuring all required reporting is completed in adherence to Agency policy and procedures.
5.Oversees documentation of issues and events such as Special Incident Reports (SIR), Shift Summaries, Communication Notes entries or memos to Residence Supervisors, and communicates those issues and events to appropriate Residence Supervisor and/or direct supervisor.
6.Assures safety of the grounds and facilities through inspection and when necessary takes immediate action to ensure safety of residents and staff.
7.Provides Residence Supervisor with written feedback on staff performance and/or resident health.
8.Assures adequate staff coverage for the houses and arranges for emergency coverage as needed.
1.Must have a Bachelor's degree or two years' experience working or volunteering in a group home or STRTP.
2.Must possess a valid California driver's license, personal automobile insurance and driving record that meets the standards outlined in the Agency's Personnel Policy; Motor Vehicle Operating Standards.
3.Must be willing to complete a personal background investigation conducted by the State of California; and must meet Community Care Licensing standards for employment.
4.Must be physically and mentally fit to work with potentially violent, severely emotionally disturbed adolescents in accordance with the Agency's Personnel Policy:Physical Fitness Standards and Examinations; must be willing to complete a health screening physical examination that includes a drug screen and a back screen; and must have the unrestricted capacity to employ physical restraint techniques in a professionally safe manner.
