GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Residential Community Coordinator (RCC) is a full-time (12-month) live-in position and a member of the Housing and Residence Life staff within the Division of Student Affairs. The Residential Community Coordinator will collaborate with campus and third-party partners to create a robust residential student community at the FOUND Study

  • Midtown East Residence Hall. This highly collaborative, student-facing role will facilitate the meaningful co-curricular development of all students through residential community engagement initiatives. The selected candidate will oversee and execute programming, student leadership, community engagement, and student support as the direct liaison between LIM staff and the FOUND Study

  • Midtown East Residence Hall staff.

Responsibilities include: Oversight of College-affiliated residence space - including completing and managing room and roommate assignments, student staff supervision. Promoting a robust, welcoming, healthy, and safe residential community for LIM students through programs and individualized student outreach and support. The RCC will facilitate and encourage active involvement, transparent communication, and College-wide collaborations.

SALARY RANGE: $40,000-$44,000

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

Residential Programming and Supervision

  • Meet regularly with FOUND Study
  • Midtown East residential staff and maintain a relationship as the primary liaison between building staff and LIM College staff.
  • Coordinate and oversee student programming - planning, logistics, outreach to other departments, publicity and promotion, and assessment.

  • Attend events and provide on-site assistance.

  • Stay abreast of, and communicate to students, information regarding community, academic and cultural events across LIM College.

  • Hire, supervise, train, and evaluate Residential Community Advisors, live-in student staff members.

  • Plan and facilitate training for Residential Community Advisors at the beginning of fall and spring semesters.

  • Handle critical residential issues including conflict mediation and student crisis support, appropriately referring facilities issues, addressing disciplinary concerns, and supporting students in crisis.

  • Document/report violations of policy as appropriate.

  • Participate in adjudication of violations in conjunction with Assistant Vice President Student Affairs and the FOUND Study staff.

  • Develop and maintain high expectations for RCA student connection and involvement in the community.

  • Oversee budget designated for Housing and Residence Life community development.

  • Collaborate with FOUND Study staff on the move-in and move-out logistics of residence hall.

  • With Student Affairs team, facilitate student engagement, community building and involvement, and leadership development through coordination of services, support and student programming.

Housing and Residence Life Administrative Support

  • Provide prompt and professional responses to housing inquiries, including managing departmental email account and following up with families interested in learning more about our College-affiliated housing.

  • Collaborate with the Student Affairs and Compliance Coordinator to maintain residence hall records and inventories, including updated residential rosters and records. Provide necessary information about residential students as requested.

  • Manage residential space occupancy with a close eye on the data to ensure operations remain within budgetary expectations.

  • Communicate and meet regularly with Admissions team members to discuss housing application management and student follow-up as it pertains to enrollment and yield.

  • Create, in collaboration with Marketing and Communications, resources and materials to promote College-affiliated housing.

  • Other duties and special projects as assigned by the Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs and/or the Vice President for Student Affairs.

Summer Operations

  • Collaborate with campus partners in developing, promoting, and managing logistics for summer campus programming and events.

  • Coordinate, in conjunction with the Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs, housing needs for summer programs. Serve as a Housing and Residence Life liaison to summer residents/guests to ensure overall customer satisfaction.

  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate summer student staff.

  • Lead and oversee summer programming - planning, logistics, outreach to other departments, publicity and promotion, and assessment; attend events and provide on-site assistance.

  • Support students with off-campus living and collaborate in hosting off-campus housing search weekend, including coordinating workshops and providing resources for students interested in off campus housing in New York City.

  • Support summer engagement and orientation initiatives aimed at incoming students.

Student Life Collateral Responsibilities

  • Assist with large, annual events such as New Student Orientation, Student Recognition Awards, Commencement, Admissions events, and other events as needed.

  • Create programmatic opportunities for all in-person students - residential and non-residential in partnership and collaboration with Student Life staff.

  • Advise at least one student organization.

Student Affairs Team Member

  • Assist with office coverage for Student Affairs, including answering phone, responding to emails, and assisting walk-ins.

  • Participate in various campus wide functions such as New Student Orientation, Parent Orientation and New Faculty Orientation.

  • Assist with department and division programs as needed.

  • Participate in Student Affairs strategic initiatives when called upon

Skills-

Demonstrated experience working with a diverse student population in a residential community environment. Experiencing supervisor or mentoring student staff. Experience initiating and fostering relationships with multiple stakeholders. Knowledge of standard residence hall operations, including managing housing assignments, and facilitating move-in and move-out. Demonstrated experience in working with programs that focus on academic, cultural, and personal needs of students. Ability to mentor, motivate, and encourage students is required.

Demonstrated technical and creative skills to communicate our mission, vision, and purpose to a large and diverse student population - including, but not limited to, written work, social media, verbal presentations, video development, and assessment reporting; Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written communication, and listening skills.

REQUIREMENTS: The person selected will have the following qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs or closely related field preferred. Bachelor's Degree required.

  • Knowledge of student development theory and current trends in higher education.

  • 0-2 years experience in a residential setting in higher education, or relevant student affairs area. Experience working with college students and managing multiple priorities.

  • Ability to exercise patience and empathy and be comfortable working with a diverse population of college students. Must possess strong interpersonal and collaborative skills and ability to effectively communicate and establish rapport with a broad group of constituents including students, parents, faculty, and staff across LIM College as needed. Must demonstrate strong analytical, creative, problem-solving abilities, strong time-management and organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work well independently.
