RESIDENTIAL CARE WORKER SUPERVISOR

Interviews will be scheduled on select Tuesdays on an ongoing basis. Job offers for selected candidates will be made the same day. Qualified applicants will be invited to interview via email.

To be considered, you must be willing to work a variety of shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Candidates are eligible for hire at $63,731.20 annually.

Residential Care Worker Supervisors assigned to Polinsky Children's Center receive an additional 10% above the base salary, and an additional $0.80 per hour shift differential for Overnight Shifts.Positions may be eligible for bilingual premium depending on assignment.

Future Salary Increases

July 2024 - 5.05% increase to base pay (2.75% Across-the-Board + 2.30% Market Increase)

Polinsky Children's Center, located at 9400 Ruffin Court, San Diego, is a 24-hour facility for the temporary emergency shelter of children who must be separated from their families for their own safety, or when parents/caretakers cannot provide care. Residential Care Worker Supervisors supervise Residential Care Workers, volunteers and contract workers on multiple shifts in an assigned cottage or cottages, coordinate individualized assessment plans of children in residence with other members of a multi-disciplinary team, and oversee the activities of a cottage and its staff. Polinsky Children's Center (PCC) plays a vital role in the Child Welfare system for abused, abandoned and neglected teens, children and infants who find themselves placed at the facility.

QUALIFYING EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Completion of twelve (12) units from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in social work, child development theory, a closely related behavioral science and/or criminal justice to include behavior management techniques and child psychology/child development: AND,
  • Two (2) years of experience providing supervision and care to children in a 24-hour residential facility or licensed day care, or licensed after school program for youth, one (1) year of which must have been working in an emergency shelter care facility performing journey-level Residential Care Worker responsibilities.

Notes:

1.Care for one's own children or care of children in an unlicensed facility is not qualifying.

2.Applicants using Residential Care Worker experience gained through U.N.I. to qualify must submit a letter from U.N.I. verifying the number of hours worked.

3.Qualifying experience includes experience as a school teacher instructing teens and/or children.

4.Thirty (30) units from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in the disciplines listed above may substitute for twelve (12) months of the required experience.

Ideal candidates also provide leadership, communicate effectively, hold self and others accountable, solve problems, leverage resources (coaches and develops), and drive to excel.

INTERVIEWS AND HIRING PROCESS

Interviews will be scheduled shortly after eligible candidates are referred to the department. The department will be reaching out to candidates to invite them to participate in an interview.Job offers for selected candidates will be made shortly after the interviews. Candidates should be prepared to immediately complete background paperwork, upon receipt of a job offer.

The timeline for this recruitment is outlined below. Please note that dates are approximate and are dependent upon the successful completion of each step of the process.

  • Job Offer and Background Process begins: Day of interview.

  • Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.

  • Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT

As part of the County of San Diego's pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.

EVALUATION PROCESS

Qualified candidates will be placed on a six (6) month eligible list based on the scores received during the evaluation of information contained on their employment and supplemental applications.
