Under the administrative supervision of the DW of Housing, the RUM has the direct responsibility for managing and supervising the work of prisoner care support staff at assigned housing unit. Responsible for the custody, security, sanitation and housing unit base programming for prisoners assigned. Ensures that Department and Institutional Policies, procedures and administrative rules are complied with and exercises considerable independent judgment to adapt and apply the guidelines to specific situations. Handles prisoner file case workload.
Required Education and Experience
Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.
Three years of experience equivalent to a Corrections Medical Aide 10, Corrections Resident Representative E10, Resident Unit Officer E10, Special Alternative Incarceration Officer E10, or in a combination of Resident Unit Officer E10 and qualifying professional experience; two years equivalent to a Corrections Shift Supervisor 11; or, one year equivalent to an Assistant Resident Unit Supervisor 11, Corrections Athletic Coordinator P11, Corrections Program Coordinator P11, Corrections Shift Supervisor 12, Prison Counselor P11, Parole Probation Officer P11, or a Clinical Social Worker P11 or Psychologist P11 in an adult correctional facility.
Alternate Education and Experience
Alternate Education and Experience Resident Unit Manager 13
Education level typically acquired through completion of high school and three years of experience equivalent to a Corrections Shift Supervisor 13 or Corrections Security Inspector 13 may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.
Additional Requirements and Information
The Department of Corrections may screen out job applicants who have been convicted of a felony in accordance with Public Act 191 of 2017. Applicants who have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony are ineligible for employment with the Department of Corrections until satisfactory completion of any sentence imposed, including parole or probation.
