Job Description
The Resident Director is a key person in the overall operation and success of a growing community within a residence hall. This person must have a working knowledge of hall management, business practices, and the importance of personal contacts with students, faculty and staff. In addition, this person must be familiar with college life and the needs and interests of students.
The Resident Director is responsible for creating and maintaining an educational environment in the residence hall. Above all, the Residence Director must enjoy living and working with college-age students.
Key Responsibilities
The Resident Director must be a capable person who senses the responsibilities of the position and knows when his or her presence or action is appropriate and necessary. Furthermore, the Resident Director must recognize that the actions of individuals or groups on the premises of the residence halls fall within the realm of their jurisdiction and area of responsibility. Methods of reporting, control and supervision, promotion and development of programming, distribution of administrative supplies, information, and general organizational procedures need to be as uniform as possible in operation and applicable for all halls. Solutions to specific questions or problems, which cannot be patterned, as suggested above, shall be worked out with the Residence Director, the Assistant Director and the Director of University Housing. In addition to the specific responsibilities as mentioned below, the Residence Director must also recognize that additional job functions may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education
2 years of experience working as a resident assistant or in a live-in housing position
Demonstrated ability to create strong communities in a Residence Hall setting
Demonstrated ability to work in emotionally charged situations
Strong planning, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written forms
Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise students
Preferred Qualifications
At least one year experience using StarRez housing software
At least one year supervision of students in a housing environment
At least one year experience serving at a resident director level for duty responsibilities
Additional Information

Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
