Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Director of Residence Life & Student Services, the Resident Director & Coordinator for Student Programs is a full-time, live-in position and is responsible for creating and developing an effective and supportive living-learning environment within Bushnell University's residence halls. Additionally, this person is under the supervision of the Director of Student Programs with the coordination and facilitation of on and off-campus student programming and activities.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

Resident Director:

  • Provide ongoing training and supervision to assigned Resident Assistants (RAs). Equip, develop, and encourage RAs during weekly individual mentoring meetings to promote their leadership, personal, and spiritual formation.

  • Meet weekly with the Residence Life team (RAs, graduate interns, and professional staff) to build team cohesiveness, plan events, and facilitate our mission of building a Christ-centered residential community of belonging conducive to growing in wisdom, faith, and service together.

  • Maintain an active and visible presence in residential areas through participation in residence life functions, and facilitation of hall meetings and activities. Engage with students in residence halls and promote holistic well-being, growth, retention, and belonging.

  • Facilitate and support the transition of new students to living on campus.

  • Supervise and assist student efforts in educational, cultural, social, and recreational programming.

  • Understand, support, and enforce campus policies, facilitate educational conduct meetings, and assign and track appropriate outcomes in coordination with the Director of Residence Life.

  • Provide support and resources for students in crisis, coordinate the notification of the appropriate university officials/referral agencies, serve in the "Administrative On-Call" capacity, and coordinate RA Duty coverage.

  • Oversee the check-in/check-out procedures, including key distribution and collection.

  • Assist with the facilitation of housing selection and assignment process for incoming and returning students. Coordinate room changes and housing paperwork throughout the year as needed.

  • Oversee the physical maintenance of the residence hall, track work orders, conduct routine inspections of living areas, and promptly report damages to Campus Facilities and Maintenance.

  • Maintain an adequate knowledge of security systems (fire equipment, alarms, doors, and locks) and verify their working condition through scheduled fire drills and inspection of doors, locks, and fire extinguishers.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Coordinator for Student Programs:

  • Lead, direct planning, and attend Beacon Nights under the supervision of the Director of Student Programs.

  • Assist Director of Student Programs with signature programming events including Orientations, Family Weekend, Beacon Madness, and/or Intramurals.

  • Assist with Student Programs staff meetings, one-on-one meetings, student staff leadership development, student staff trainings, and provide student staff supervision.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience and Qualification Requirements:

Any combination equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree (Master's Degree preferred in areas of Student Development, Higher Ed Leadership, Counseling, or related field) and two years of additional professional or para-professional experience in a residence hall, student activities, and/or student leadership programs.

Knowledge of planning, organization, and direction of residence life, student programs, student development, leadership development; college policies, procedures and trends related to student development; training, management, and coordination of development programs; operation of a computer and applicable software; University mission, goals and objectives; budget preparation and control; oral and written communication skills; principles and practices of administration, supervision and training; applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures; interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy; and record-keeping techniques.

  • The position is in an office environment with constant interruptions and may require some travel and varied working hours including evenings and weekends.

  • The employee must be able to drive a vehicle and possess (or have the ability to attain) an Oregon Driver's License.

  • The position may require lifting up to 25 lbs, as well as bending, stooping, and kneeling.
