Under general supervision, the Resident Assistant provides assistance in the personal care and protection of the residents in the assisted living level of care. Actively incorporates the CARF/CCAC standards into the daily rhythm of life of the residents.

Develops awareness of residents' interests and needs and assists residents to maximize their independence and participation. Works on a one-on-one basis with residents providing direct resident care and assists in residents' activities of daily living and scheduled Program activities. Incorporates the "Best Friend" program approach for those with memory support challenges utilizing a positive, can-do attitude.

Provides effective customer service skills meeting the standards and culture expectations of the company's Advantage program. As a representative and team member of the company, this position is expected to present oneself in a manner that reflects professionalism and ensures resident satisfaction.

  • Education High School Diploma or equivalent. Some Vocational/technical training in the nursing field specifically with elderly and dementia and/or CNA preferred

  • Experience/Training One-year experience working with elderly requiring memory support, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities. Must be proficient in the use of a computer for input of resident information.

  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations CPR and First Aid certification required

These services and programs produce a residential experience that ensures the quality of life, well-being, and personal development for more than 11,000 diverse residents living in 18 residence hall and apartment communities, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The team is responsible for 330+ student staff, $7.3 million operating budget and an annual major maintenance budget of $100,000. The Assistant Director shall be primary supervisor for specific areas to develop a strong sense of community for undergraduate students, graduate students, and/or families. Additionally, the Assistant Director shall work in a collaborative style to support the success of the Residential & Community Living unit in all communities. Responsible for staff orientation, training and development; staff supervision and evaluation; programming through residential curriculum approach, staff leadership development and community development; recruitment and selection; student conduct, counseling and crisis management; administrative responsibilities; budget and major maintenance; communication with students, parents, faculty and staff; and special residential programs such as FSSP (Freshman Summer Start Program). Minimum Requirements MA or equivalent combination of education and work experience. 5-8 years work experience in Housing, or a combination of Housing and Student Development. Full-time supervision experience. Experience working with a diverse student body. Residential curriculum familiarity and/or experience. Experience managing conduct and mental health cases. Desirable Requirements Experience working with various student populations (grads, transfers, family, traditional). Assessment skills. Experience working in a large public institution.
