POSITION: Residence Life Coordinator

SUPERVISOR: Assistant Director of Housing and Residence Life/Director of Residential Experience

DEPARTMENT: Student Development and Transformation

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

The Residence Life Coordinator reports to the Assistant Director of Housing and Residence Life/Director of Residential Experience and serves as a live-in professional staff member. They will provide oversight and assume responsibility for a residential neighborhood of campus. Primary responsibilities include student staff supervision, programming, behavioral and conflict management, and crisis response.

Requirements

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Administrative

  • Record and report information (e.g. inventories, work orders, incident reports, surveys/assessments)

  • Communicate student concerns and area-related information with the necessary staff members

  • Supervise the Resident Assistant staff assigned to the neighborhood of responsibility

  • Serve as liaison between residents and professional staff

  • Complete forms related to financial transactions and events

Crisis Intervention

  • Participate in the on-call rotation with other professional staff members and respond to emergencies during business hours, after-hours, weekends, and university holidays

  • Utilize department protocol to respond to crisis situations and provide guidance to staff and students

  • Make referrals to campus resources when needed

  • Submit an Early Alert (TUacts) report for students of concern

Behavior and Conflict Management

  • Serve as the primary student conduct hearing officer for incidents that occur within one's own neighborhood

  • Determine responsibility for alleged violations of the Student Code of Conduct and assign sanctions

  • Meet with students to discuss interpersonal conflicts

  • Facilitate roommate mediations to address concerns and establish dialogue within students' living spaces

Housing Operations

  • Assist in the housing check-in/check-out processes

  • Verify the condition of spaces upon checkout and process charges when needed

  • Report and monitor maintenance and housekeeping issues within residential spaces

  • Conduct facility walkthroughs on a regular basis and upon request

  • Issue and reconcile keys/cards, including tracking and billing for those that are lost

  • Provide front desk coverage as needed

  • Aid in the facilitation of summer housing and camps

Programming

  • Coordinate residentially-based programming in conjunction with student staff that helps build community and create a sense of belonging

  • Serve as a co-advisor to Tiffin Hall and House Association (THHA) for large-scale campus programming

  • Allocate programming funds based on established parameters

Leadership

  • Attend departmental and campus-wide meetings as required

  • Attend and participate in professional staff training

  • Co-lead Resident Assistant recruitment and selection processes

  • Co-lead Resident Assistant training and in-service sessions

  • Collaborate with other University offices on programming and student support initiatives

  • Represent the University at campus events (e.g. Welcome Weekend, Visit Days, Orientation)

  • Develop and maintain relationships with residents and University personnel

  • Serve on University committees

  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/ABILITIES FOR THE JOB

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required

  • Demonstrated knowledge as a resident assistant or student leader

  • Interest and appreciation in student development

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling or a related field

  • Experience in residence life/housing as a student or professional
