Job Summary:

With the guidance of the Director of Residence Life, the Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) assists in facilitating residential students and student staff members in their total development. A RLC should be committed to student development and capable of responding in a positive manner to a wide variety of situations. A RLC is expected to carry out their responsibilities in a manner that will further individual student responsibility and promote self-discipline within the residence hall community. The coordinator receives hourly pay, a furnished on-campus apartment, and a meal plan as part of their compensation package. The coordinator lives on campus and should follow and role model the rules asked of our student residents.

Essential Functions:

Major responsibilities of the RLC include the assistance in the supervision of Resident Assistant (RA) staff, assisting in the development and implementation of student development programming, providing administrative support for hall operations, and assuming primary responsibility for a residence hall area/staff. Additionally, participation in regular "on-call" supervisory rotation and responding to emergency/crisis situations is expected.

Primary Responsibilities:

Resident Assistant Staff

  • Interview, select, train, supervise, and evaluate Resident Assistant (RA) staff.

  • Develop and implement an ongoing staff development/training program for all RA's.

  • Co-facilitate the orientation and training of newly appointed RA's.

  • Conduct group weekly meetings and bi-weekly one-on-one meetings with RA staff.

  • Develop a continuous feedback system with the Director of Residence Life and the Resident Assistants.

  • Mediate roommate conflicts that escalate beyond the Resident Assistant's successful intervention.

Administrative Functions

  • Assist in coordinating specific daytime, evening, and weekend duty schedules for herself/himself and the residence hall to ensure hall coverage.

  • Attend all staff meetings and seminars as scheduled.

  • Serve as a recruiter for potential residents and aid in the retention of current residents, by directing, educating, and motivating Resident Assistant staff on a variety of successful residence hall programs, thus developing a strong community.

  • Report Title IX and conduct issues through the OLLU webpage or Maxient.

  • Serve as a Student Conduct Officer for Student Affairs and the Office of Residence Life

  • Follow up on retention alerts and report findings to Director.

  • Be an advisor for the Futuro Leadership Scholars Living Learning Community (LLC).

  • Be a point of contact for other LLC advisors in the Halls

  • Learn and utilize the housing occupancy management software system; keep accurate records of resident information.

Facilities Management

  • Assume shared responsibility for opening, closing, and securing the residence halls at the beginning and end of each semester and during holiday periods as appropriate.

  • Ensure safety of the students by reporting issues, tracking key inventory, working with police department, and enforcing the rules outlines in the resident handbook.

  • Examine residence hall area on a weekly basis, reporting damages, repairs, and necessary replacements occurring within the hall to the Director of Residence Life.

  • Meet, as needed, with the custodial and maintenance staff to ensure quality operation of the residence hall.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Serve on and assume leadership for committees established by the Office of Residence Life (training, program recognition, community development, etc.), as well as any other university committees that may benefit from the input of a Residence Life perspective.

  • Become acquainted and remain knowledgeable of University services, offices, and information in the Residence Life staff manual and resident handbook.

  • Serve as a liaison from the Office of Residence Life to the rest of the campus community.

  • Work cooperatively with other campus units such as Campus Police, Counseling Services, Student Involvement, and Student Affairs to ensure the delivery of essential services to students.

  • Assist the Director of Residence Life and/or Office Manager in designated area projects and/or committees, including the comprehensive administration of all summer camps, conferences, and groups, visiting the university and utilizing the residence halls.

  • Other related duties as assigned by the Director of Residence Life, AVP of Student Affairs, or VP of Student Affairs

Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to live on-campus and encompass a rotational, evening "on call" supervisory responsibility.

  • Ability to work a schedule of 40 hours a week, with busier periods at certain times of the semester.

  • Ability to work nights and weekends as needed.

  • Ability to write and communicate effectively.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and respond to crisis under pressure.

  • Ability to handle sensitive issues and correspondence with confidentiality and discretion.

  • Ability to lift at least 20 pounds and be able to quickly move between housing buildings during emergencies.

  • Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office and other university Windows-based software.

  • Ability to learn the housing software in a timely manner.

  • Ability to meet the OLLU and Residence Life staff standards for on-campus and workplace environment safety for any family or guests on property.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree required.

  • Minimum of one year experience in a housing/residence life, housing management, or other Student Affairs area, preferably in a university setting; student experience is applicable.

  • Ability to live on-campus.
