Job Description:

General Summary: As a Residence Life Coordinator (RLC), you will play a pivotal role in fostering a supportive living environment for undergraduate students at Seattle Pacific University. This live-in position involves managing day-to-day operations in a residential area, supervising student staff, facilitating student learning and support, and contributing to the overall mission of Residence Life.

Key Job Duties include:

Staff Development

  • Train, supervise, and evaluate undergraduate Resident Advisors.

  • Contribute to staff training and recruitment processes.

Student Learning & Support

  • Develop meaningful relationships with students and facilitate their learning and growth.

  • Engage students in areas such as community development, faith formation, and wellness.

Community Development

  • Establish and maintain a Christ-centered community that supports student well-being and growth.

  • Advise the Area Council and participate in community-building activities.

Residence Administration

  • Manage residence hall operations, including openings, closings, and room changes.

  • Collaborate with campus partners to improve residential environments.

Safety & Emergency Response

  • Participate in on-call rotation responding to residence hall indidents/emergencies and serve as a Building Emergency Coordinator.

Collaborative Residence Life Work

  • Foster collaborative relationships within the Residence Life staff and with other campus partners in a manner that fosters and invites trust, humility and respect, constructive critical feedback, focus on solutions and commitment to team and department decisions.

Collateral Assignment

  • Take responsibility for an area that supports the overall function of Residence Life. Area of responsibility will be chosen yearly based on individual interests and abilities and department needs.

Professional Development

  • Engage in ongoing personal and professional development related to supporting student success and cultural understanding.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and training in student development or counseling-related issues.

  • 1-2 years of professional experience working directly with college students.

  • Understanding of and commitment to engaging underrepresented and majority culture students in issues of diversity and inclusion and supporting underrepresented student success at predominantly white institutions.

  • Maturing and contagious Christian faith, knowledge of and the commitment to actively support the Christian mission of the University and accept the lifestyle standards of the Christian community.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and aptitude to learn additional tech platforms such s StarRez, Confluence, and Banner (Elucian).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Higher Education Administration or related field.

  • 2-3 years of professional experience in student affairs.

  • Experience with residence hall operations and student leadership development.

Additional Information:

Priority deadline for application submission is: April 24, 2024. But, position will accept applications until filled. This is a 10 month, regular exempt staff position with an annual appointment mid August to mid June.

Start date of position anticipated to be August 14, 2024.

Salary: $34,000 - $36,000 DOE, plus housing and meal plan

This is a full time position with excellent benefits. SPU pays the employee premium for medical, dental, and vision insurance. SPU makes generous contributions to an employee HSA account and a 7% contribution to a retirement account, for eligible employees, with immediate vesting in the plan. Tuition discount program (50% - 90%) available for the employee and qualified immediate family members.
