Department Information

Housing and Residence Life is passionate about the Georgia Tech residential student experience. With 97% of all first-year students choosing to live on campus, we create spaces and opportunities for Yellow Jackets to grow and connect from their first day of college through their graduate studies. Our department is a large and complex organization supporting over 8,700 on-campus residents among 49 traditional halls, suites, and apartments, some of which were constructed for the 1996 Summer Olympics. Our team of 200+ professional staff and 300+ student staff among seven departments support residents directly and indirectly with their unique talents.

Job Summary

Within the assigned residence hall, serve as a live-in leader, organizer, coordinator, and facilitator of programs and services that encourage positive living experiences for students residing in that facility. Direct programs that assist student residents in connecting with the campus community and their peers in ways that encourage personal and academic growth and development.

This position will interact on a consistent basis with residence hall students, parents, Housing-Residence Life management, and staff. This position typically will advise and counsel students within assigned residence halls. This position will supervise Student Resident Advisors and/or Peer Leaders.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -

Implement curriculum for resident student programs that encourage personal development, academic achievement, community living, and social interaction.

Job Duty 2 -

Provide fundamental analysis related to trends to further the educational development plan. Data is collected through surveys and observation.

Job Duty 3 -

Train, evaluate, and supervise student staff who work directly with fellow students to implement programs and provide services within the residence hall.

Job Duty 4 -

Advise Hall Counsel by overseeing meetings, participating in training, assisting with social programming, overseeing the budget, and meeting individually with executive boards from corresponding hall councils.

Job Duty 5 -

Support the student judicial process by serving as a Hearing Officer.

Job Duty 6 -

Serve on 24-hour Emergency/Crisis on-call rotation throughout the year. Facilitate building walk-throughs with custodial staff and other Housing staff.

Job Duty 7 -

Communicate, interpret, and administer Residence Life and Institute policies and procedures to student staff and residents.

Job Duty 8 -

Maintain visibility and availability within the residence hall community.

Job Duty 9 -

Provide student staff and residents one-to-one contact, conflict mediation, and referral services.

Job Duty 10 -

Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience

One to two years of job-related experience

Other Required Qualifications

Must pass a credit check before handling money. Must be physically able to set up tables and chairs. Must be available for evening shows.

Proposed Salary

Pay Range: $32,470-$41,893/yr.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

SKILLS

This job requires student leadership and advising skills within a university residential life setting. Skills in program development and implementation, communications, and dealing with crisis situations are required, as is the use of office-level computer applications.
