Each Hall Director is responsible for the daily operation of a residence hall. This

requires coordination of Resident Assistant, desk workers, and residents to achieve

goals of the College. Hall Director must understand and accept the responsibilities

that come with being a role model for students and staff. Hall Director must display

professional behavior, loyalty, and commitment to the Department and the College

as outlined in the staff manual.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE FUNCTION

Each Hall Director is responsible for the daily operation of a residence hall. This requires coordination of Resident Assistants, desk workers, and residents to achieve the goals of the College. Hall Directors must understand and accept the responsibilities that come with being a role model for students and staff. Hall Directors must display professional behavior, loyalty, and commitment to the Department.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

High School diploma required, Associates Degree (preferred), Bachelor's Degree (desirable) or higher with at least one year of live-in experience in a residence hall desirable.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, include the following.

Other duties may be assigned.

Maintain knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices.

• The Hall Director must exhibit and maintain confidentiality concerning student information and situations in aspects of their job at all times. Hall Directors will make themselves familiar with FERPA, College Policies, Regulations, and Procedures

• Provide leadership for the day-to-day operation of a residence hall

• Hall Directors directly supervise the Resident Assistants and Desk Assistants

• The Residence Hall Director (RHD) assists the Director of Student Housing and Assistant Director who provides leadership for one of Hinds residential communities comprising of 90 students or more

• Build relationships with the residents and provide personal, social, academic, and occupational support and referral

• Maintain high visibility and availability, including attending community events, regularly touring the community, and interacting with residents

• The HD will assist in the development of strategies for providing leadership in the areas of recruiting, training, mentoring, and supervising staff, advising the resident assistants, fostering community relationships, and supporting College initiatives

• Cultivate a positive and engaging living environment that fosters a sense of belonging and enables students to build positive relationships with one another

• Collaborate with faculty and staff to implement programmatic opportunities, some of which may be connected with living-learning communities

• The HD will assist in the management of the administrative aspects of the residential community that includes room change paperwork, room checks, and conflict resolution

• The HD will facilitate relationships with facility partners such as Hinds Maintenance Department, Food Services, and Hinds Housekeeping

• Perform all other duties as assigned by the Area Coordinator, Director of Student Housing, Dean of Students, Vice President, President, or appropriate authority

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Directly supervise Residents Assistants and Desk Assistant that work in their assigned residence Hall

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, and the employee is occasionally required to perform job responsibilities in the outdoors and off site.
