Job Summary:

Under the general direction of the Director of Residential Life and Community Standards, we are seeking a

dedicated and proactive Residence Director to join our team. The Residence Director will play a pivotal role

in creating a vibrant and supportive living environment for our residents. This position requires a strong

commitment to student success, safety, and community development. The Residence Director will be an

essential member of our residential life team and will be responsible for completing rounds on duty.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Resident Support: Provide support and guidance to residents on academic, personal, and social matters. Act as a resource for residents seeking assistance or information.

  • Community Building: Foster a sense of belonging and community within the residence halls through programming, events, and initiatives. Encourage inclusive and respectful interactions among residents.

  • Crisis Management: Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies and crisis situations within the residence halls. Implement appropriate protocols and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of residents.

  • Administrative Duties: Oversee various administrative tasks related to residence hall operations, including room assignments, key distribution, and maintenance requests. Maintain accurate records and reports as required.

  • Policy Enforcement: Enforce residence hall policies and regulations in a fair and consistent manner. Address violations of community standards and take appropriate disciplinary action when necessary.

  • On-Duty Rounds: Complete regular rounds during assigned duty shifts to monitor the residence halls and address any issues or concerns that arise. Be accessible and available to residents during on-duty hours.

  • Staff Supervision: Supervise and support Community Assistants (CAs) and other residential life staff members. Provide guidance, training, and feedback to promote professional development and enhance performance.

  • Collaboration: Collaborate with campus partners, including academic departments, student services offices, and campus safety personnel, to support the overall well-being of residents and enhance the residential experience.

  • Student Engagement: Encourage resident involvement in campus activities, clubs, and organizations. Promote opportunities for personal growth, leadership development, and meaningful connections.

  • Continuous Improvement: Stay informed about residential life and student affairs best practices. Seek feedback from residents and stakeholders to identify areas for improvement and implement enhancements accordingly.

Qualifications:

  • This is a live-on position and requires being a member of our campus community.

  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree in student personnel, higher education administration, counseling, or related field preferred.

  • Previous experience in residence life, student affairs, or related areas is strongly preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

  • Knowledge of student development theory, crisis management, and risk assessment.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite and residence life management software (e.g., eRez, Jenzabar, dna

Fusion) preferred.
