POSITION SUMMARY

The Residence Counselor is responsible to implement the IPP, attend to individuals' personal care needs, oversee the individuals' safety, keep nurses advised, participate in Agency activities, transport and accompany individuals' on activities and assist in daily housekeeping and other facility-related duties and maintain documentation.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Activities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Promote the individuals' independence by implementing the Individual Program Plan.

  • Attend to personal, self-care and other program needs that the individuals cannot independently accomplish.

  • Oversee the safety and well being of the individuals.

  • Advise the nurses regarding the individuals' medical and dietary concerns, dispense medication, if certified.

  • Participate in activities as part of the treatment team that may include meetings, trainings and committees.

  • Transport and accompany residents as required for appointments and community activities.

  • Assist in the daily housekeeping and laundry routine, report house damage and complete work orders; clean wheelchairs, clean and gas-up agency vans.

  • Must be able to attain and maintain SCIP-R and CPR certification.

  • Maintain documentation as required.

  • Establish a work environment that creates positive communication between supervisors and employees and assimilates new employees to the Agency's culture, values and mission.

  • Ensure compliance with all pertinent government and agency regulations and operating standards

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS/ QUALIFICATIONS/ EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Up to 1 year of experience.

  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances are warranted.

  • Knowledge of basic computer programs (Including all Windows program, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, Internet Browser, Access, Word and Excel).

  • Travel and transport is required. Must have a valid NYS Driver's License.

  • This position has regular and substantial unsupervised or unrestricted physical contact with individuals receiving services and is required by law to be fingerprinted for a criminal history record check under OPWDD (Office for People with Developmental Disabilities).

WORK ENVIRONMENT/HAZARDS

  • May be exposed to verbal and physical aggression of individuals.

  • Job related tasks involve exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue or the potential for skin or mucous membrane contact from spills or splashes of these substances. May have exposure to unpredictable individuals and situations when working at sites.

  • OSHA Exposure Category I

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear and must have fluency in the English language.

  • The employee frequently is required to stand, sit and walk and must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.

  • Employee will work with individuals with disabilities and may be exposed to verbal and physical aggression.

  • Employee must have the ability to lift 60lbs.

  • Must have the ability to bend, lift and squat, reach with arms and work with fingers.

VIEW JOBS 1/9/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-04-08T00:00 ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Activities include but are not limited to the following: * Act as a role model demonstrating positive communication and good social skills and emotional intelligence. * Ensure Individual Program Plan (IPP) is implemented and documented. * Ensure the accomplishment of individual's goals and behavior plans. * Oversee the safety and well-being of the individuals. * Maintain the timely completion of all records and reports, as directed by the Program Manager. * Supervise the daily shift operations of the residence. * Problem-solve daily shift issues and/or conflicts as part of the site leadership team. * Ensure effective communication of daily work information and expectations. * Maintain site staffing schedules and coverage, under the direction of the Program Manager. * Provide coaching and counseling of Resident Counselors to enhance the individual and team performance, as directed by the Program Manager. * Complete 90-day and annual DSP evaluations of Residence Counselors for approval by Program Manager. * Assist with interviews for staff vacancies as requested by Program Manager. * Arrange and assist with on-site orientation and training activities of all site staff members. * Perform duties of the Residence Counselor, as needed, including personal care. * Maintain accurate purchasing records, petty cash and personal funds. * Establish and effective contact with all vendors. * Adhere to mandatory reporting requirements and HIPAA regulations. * Monitor operation and condition of the residential facility and supplies, ensuring building security. * Participate in activities as part of the treatment team that may include meetings, trainings and committees. * Develop and maintain an effective communication network with the individuals, program staff, families, community agencies, and other Agency departments. * Establish a work environment that creates positive communication between supervisors and employees and assimilates new employees to the Agency's culture, values and mission. * Ensure compliance with all pertinent government and agency regulations and operating standards. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS/ QUALIFICATIONS/ EXPERIENCE * Associates degree in Human Services or related field, BS/BA preferred. * Minimum of one (1) year of experience. * Driving is required. Must have a valid, unrestricted New York State driver's license. * This position has regular and substantial unsupervised or unrestricted physical contact with individuals receiving services and is required by law to be fingerprinted for a criminal history record check under OPWDD (Office for People with Developmental Disabilities). REQUIRED ABILITIES * Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality. * Regularly attend scheduled shifts and meetings, being punctual. * When reporting for duty, meetings, or trainings be in a condition suitable for assuming responsibilities of the position. * Exercise tact, discretion and judgment in working with a variety of people. * Legible handwriting.
