We have flexible part-time positions as well as full time positions available! Our ideal candidate would have the ability to work independently, think quickly, and problem solve. You must have a positive outlook regarding individuals with developmental disabilities and seek to improve their overall quality of life. Specific duties vary depending on the support needs of each individual.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promote the individuals' independence by implementing the Individual Program Plan (IPP).

  • Attend to personal, self-care and other program needs that the individuals cannot independently accomplish.

  • Oversee the safety and well being of the individuals.

  • Transport and accompany residents as required for appointments and community activities.

  • Assist in the daily housekeeping and laundry routine, report house damage and complete work orders; clean wheelchairs, clean and gas-up agency vans.

  • Must be able to attain and maintain SCIP-R and CPR certification.

  • Maintain documentation as required.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS/ QUALIFICATIONS/ EXPERIENCE

  • Must have a valid NYS Driver's License.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Up to 1 year of experience.

  • Knowledge of basic computer programs (Including all Windows program, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, Internet Browser, Access, Word and Excel).

WORK ENVIRONMENT/HAZARDS

  • May be exposed to verbal and physical aggression of individuals.

  • Job related tasks involve exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue or the potential for skin or mucous membrane contact from spills or splashes of these substances. May have exposure to unpredictable individuals and situations when working at Upstate Cerebral Palsy sites.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear and must have fluency in the English language.

  • The employee frequently is required to stand, sit and walk and must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.

  • Employee will work with individuals with disabilities and may be exposed to verbal and physical aggression.

  • Employee must have the ability to lift 60lbs.

  • Must have the ability to bend, lift and squat, reach with arms and work with fingers.

VIEW JOBS 8/18/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-11-16T00:00 POSITION SUMMARY The School Aide is responsible, under the direction of the classroom teacher, to assist the teacher in implementing student IEP's and coordinating classroom activities, assist students while on community occupational outings, field trips, provide support and assistance with personal care activities, provide assistance in lunch preparation and clean up, support students during mealtimes by following personalized mealtime guidelines, and maintain classroom organization. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Activities include but are not limited to the following: * Provide assistance in coordinating individual and group activities in the classroom in line with each students IEP and any other applicable plans such as mealtime guidelines, behavior plans, and CFA's. * Read and comprehend each students IEP and other plans outlined above. * Demonstrated ability to write clear and concise notes, observations, and provide accurate data. * Provide support and assistance to students throughout the school day including but not limited to times of personal care needs, mealtimes, occupational outings and field trips. * Assist therapists as needed in carrying out student therapy goals. * Provide physical and/or verbal support to acute behavior issues. * Provide a supportive person centered approach while interacting with students. * Participate in classroom maintenance and organization. * Participates in Agency activities and trainings. * Adhere to mandatory abuse reporting laws and HIPPA requirements. * Establish a work environment that creates positive communication between supervisors and employees and assimilates new employees to the Agency's Mission, Vision and Values. * Ensure compliance with all pertinent government and Agency regulations and operating standards. REQUIRED ABILITIES: Abilities include but are not limited to the following: * Work effectively as a team member with other employees. * React calmly and effectively in emergency situations. * Appropriately interact with students, families, and other employees. * Respond to changing demands. * Communicate clearly. * Seek out answers and clarification from appropriate personnel as needed * Recognize an emergency and take appropriate action. * Proactively promote safety at work. * Make independent decisions when circumstances are warranted. * Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction. QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: * High School Degree or equivalent. * Basic Computer Skills (Adobe Acrobat, Word, Outlook). * This position has regular and substantial unsupervised or unrestricted physical contact with individuals receiving services, and is required by law to be fingerprinted for a criminal history record check under OPWDD (Office for People with Developmental Disabilities).
