The laboratory conducts research studies focused on the neurobiological basis of drug addiction and alcoholism. The Research Lab Assistant will utilize outbred and transgenic models of substance abuse to assess the brain circuits associated with these behaviors. Job tasks include supervision of research staff including undergraduate research assistants, coordination of research projects, performing surgical procedures, administering drug treatments, behavioral testing using computer programmed procedures and equipment, collection and analysis of tissue, data collection and transfer, organization of maintenance of detailed experimental records.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working in a laboratory environment.

  • Experience with laboratory inventory and maintenance, chemical solution preparation, performing relevant literature searches, analyzing laboratory results, writing scientific protocols and reports, and duties relating to regulatory compliance.

  • Experience with presenting and disseminating research findings to the scientific community.

  • Experience in performing basic math calculations and following complex experimental instructions.

  • Experience in performing and completing studies and data analysis with minimal supervision, as well as being able to train new personnel.

  • Experience in using spreadsheets, graphic packages, and word processing.

  • Experience using specialized software applications including Med Associates MED-PC IV, MATLAB 3DMorph, and ImageJ/FIJI.

  • Evidence of a Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience.

  • At least 2 years of working with transgenic or outbred subjects in a laboratory setting, and at least 1 year of experience in rodent drug self-administration.

Essential Duties

The individual will utilize drug self-administration procedures in rodents, brain tissue immunohistochemistry, and assessment of cognitive function.

Salary Range

$20.50 per hour
