School/College/Division Description

The Archaeological Research Laboratory Center follows directly from the Wisconsin Idea: that the university should promote the public welfare by providing information and exercising technical skills to inform public policy, conduct research on issues of importance to the peoples of the state, and communicate the results of our research to our multiple constituencies. Established in 1975 within the Anthropology Department and formalized as a Center in 2020, the ARLC programs effectively engages in the conservation and understanding of Wisconsin's 12,000 year-old archaeological and historical heritage. The ARLC has three components: 1) the Cultural Resource Management (CRM) program 2) the Archaeological Repository and 3) student education, advising, and training programs.

The UWM-CRM program will be able to offer clients a "one-stop shop" consulting service enabling clients to comply with historic preservation regulations relating to both archaeological sites and architectural-historical resources.
