About the Job

Job Responsibilities:

1) 70% of Incumbent's effort to perform study design and conduct:

o Maintain mouse colonies and set up study cohorts for research projects in the lab.

o Conduct animal study procedures, such as intracranial stereotaxic injection and

Intraperitoneal (IP) drug delivery as well as animal behavior studies after training and

supervision by principal investigator and/or senior lab staff.

o Prepare biological specimens (such as (Ribonucleic Acid) RNA, (Deoxyribonucleic Acid)

DNA and proteins extracted from postmortem human or rodent brains, primary and

immortalized cell cultures); quality control of these specimens using appropriate

instrumentation; performs molecular cell biology and biochemical studies, such as

immunoprecipitation, western blot analysis, immunohistochemistry and

immunocytochemistry, high pressure liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry,

tissue DNA extraction, quantitative PCR studies, etc.

o Develop data collection tools and collect data required by the study plan, e.g. conducts

literature searches for methods and procedures specified by the principal investigator;

plans and develops assays to evaluate experimental methods and techniques.

2) 15% of Incumbent's effort to manage research results and prepare publication:

o Record descriptions of experiments, the timing involved, and the observations made.

Compile and document results of experiments and prepares data in format which best

illustrates the results (e.g. worksheet, graphs, tables, etc.) and assists in developing

appropriate computer programs.

o Analysis of data obtained as a result of experiments performed, and preparation of

laboratory reports to be submitted to the supervisor.

o Summarize project-related work through written and oral communications as well as

prepare manuscripts for publications with the supervisor.

3) 10% of Incumbent's effort to manage laboratory:

o Prepare summaries of techniques and procedures for inclusion in laboratory technical

reports and publications.

o Develop improvements and modifications to established procedures to increase

laboratory efficiency.

o Maintain research lab. Perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment and

maintaining laboratory in a neat, clean and orderly manner.

4) 5% of Incumbent's effort to supervise lab staff, graduate students and interns:

o Train junior lab personnel such as technicians, interns and students rotating in the lab

with experimental techniques and research tools.

o Supervise their performance during experimental activities and data analysis.

o Assist other lab colleagues in various project-related work and perform trouble shooting

and problem-solving communication with others under the supervision of the principal

investigator.

5) Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

● Master's Degree and 2 years related experience, or BS/BA and 4 years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

● Experience with handling animal colony research.

● Experience in Neuroscience research
