Job Summary:

The Department of Surgery is seeking a highly motivated and self-directed Lab Technician to join an exciting research team studying the mechanisms of wound healing and therapies to improve healing using cell, animal and human wound models. This individual will perform general lab management duties, including tracking and replenishing supplies, maintaining equipment, updating protocols and records, as well as assisting in experiments.

These duties require a presence in the lab during daytime weekday hours. There may be occasional evening or weekend hours if experimental support is needed. This individual may also work closely with students, residents and other researchers in different departments on a variety of exciting and challenging projects on the cutting edge of translational wound healing research. Work in this laboratory has the potential to lead to discoveries with direct translation to burn and wound patients.

Responsibilities:

Conducts research experiments with limited supervision. Provides technical support with some degree of independence for research projects and/or labs under moderate supervision.

  • 25% Prepares lab and/or field test materials and samples according to established research requirements and specifications. Performs lab or field tests.
  • 30% Inspects and maintains equipment, supplies, inventory, and facility spaces
  • 25% Collects data and monitors test results according to established research requirements and specifications
  • 20% Assist or work alongside with team members to conduct experiments, including cell, tissue and animals studies

Preferred focus in molecular biology or related field

Qualifications:

Preferred:

  • Experience in a basic science lab.

  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and Word.

  • A minimum of one year experience in molecular biology techniques including RNA, DNA extraction and amplification, PCR, Western Blot, cell culture, immunohistochemistry, ELISA, protocol and assay development.

  • Specific experience with animal work.

Work Schedule:

The regular work schedule will be Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm (exact schedule to be set at the time of hire).

Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 80% - 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Minimum $18.00 HOURLY

The starting salary for the position is $18.00/hr but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
