The Leclerc Laboratory at the University of Virginia, Department of Anesthesiology, seeks applications for a Research Technician or Lab Specialist .

The Leclerc Lab focuses on elucidating the mechanisms for the clearance of neurotoxic metabolites from the brain following hemorrhagic stroke. Normally, blood is not present within the brain aside from that which is contained within the vasculature. When bleeding occurs , red blood cells become unstable and release a myriad of neurotoxic molecules. The glymphatic pathway is a special clearance pathway within the brain that facilitates bulk flow washout of molecules to the periphery . This research focuses on how various anesthetic agents interact with the glymphatic pathway to facilitate the clearance of neurotoxic metabolites after hemorrhagic stroke .

The experiments proposed utilize cutting-edge in vivo and in vitro techniques and represent a unique research niche that bridges the fields of Anesthesiology and Neuroscience .
