Summary:
Working in a team environment, the Research technician conducts research through experimentation under limited supervision of a senior staff member for the development and/or improvement Neogen's products for food safety and animal safety applications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Conducts experimentation necessary to develop new products or improve or expand the claims of current Neogen products.

  • Identifies, troubleshoots and resolves experimentation problems as needed.

  • Interprets and records daily experimental results and provides a summary of results to senior team member for review.

  • Collaborates with team members to establish the experimental design.

  • Prepares all reagents necessary for experimentation.

  • Orders necessary materials to ensure timely completion of project. Ensures that all purchases are coded to the appropriate project budget.

  • Maintains laboratory in a clean and safe manner.

  • Makes presentations of experimental results at regular R&D group meetings.

  • May report research activities at monthly R&D meeting.

  • BS or Associates degree in related area of Science pertinent to the Research team (microbiology, Molecular biology, chemistry, biochemistry, immunology or related field).

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment, managing multiple projects with attention to meeting project milestones and timelines.

  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team, interacting with members of other departments including other R&D groups, Sales & Marketing, Business Development, Manufacturing, Quality Control and Technical Service.

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Project.

Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to use chromatographic, spectrophotometric, and other laboratory instrumentation, as well as perform regular maintenance on such instruments.
