GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
The Lindsay laboratory of the Cardiovascular Research Center in collaboration with the Musolino Laboratory at the Center for Genomic Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, seeks an exceptional candidate for the position of research technician to implement studies involving cellular and animal models of rare cardiovascular diseases. The technician will receive support from current study staff, as well as guidance from the Principal Investigator(s). This position is ideal for a candidate looking for an entry position to a career in an academic science environment or translational research in biotech.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary responsibility for management of knockout and transgenic mouse colonies
Isolation of genomic DNA from tail biopsies
Genotyping by PCR analysis
Assisting with mouse anesthesia and surgery
Immunohistochemistry
Tissue culture
Assisting with lab management
Ordering of animals, chemicals, and supplies
Coordination of equipment maintenance and repairs
Design, plan, and execute cell-based, biochemical, and in vivo experiments necessary to validate target genes for therapeutic discovery.
Contribute to scientific literature and present research at scientific forums.
BS degree in life sciences (e.g., biology, biochemistry, or pre-med) required
Previous research experience (2 years) involving small animal handling and surgery highly desirable
Comfortable with computers and electronics
Highly motivated
Able to work independently as well as member of a team
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Attention to detail
Accurate record keeping
Additional specialized training: Neuroscience, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Stem Cell Biology, Blood Brain Barrier, Vascular Biology, Pre-Med preferred
