Van Andel Institute (VAI), a world-class biomedical research institute, located in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is dedicated to improving human health. The laboratory of Dr. Qiang Zhu is seeking to hire a Research Technician to be a key part of our research team.

Our research focuses on exploring the molecular and cellular mechanisms of neurodegeneration in motor neuron diseases (e.g. ALS) and dementia (e.g. frontotemporal dementia) and more importantly, developing novel therapies for clinical application to treat these devastating diseases. Work in the laboratory is conducted across multiple levels, including human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) culture, rodent models and human nervous system samples. QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor's degree (or above) in life sciences, focusing on neuroscience, cell biology and molecular biology, or related biomedical fields

  • Experience in rodent models (e.g., neural behavioral assays, surgery, tissue sectioning/imaging) would be a plus

  • Excellent organizational and communication (oral and written) skills

  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative to handle responsibility and tasks in a reliable, high-quality, and efficient manner

  • A motivated individual who is able to work independently and also collaborate closely with other lab members in a team environment

  • Salary and title are commensurate with experience
