Department of Neuroscience
The Department of Neuroscience at UT Southwestern Medical Center is dedicated to research into fundamental questions concerning neuronal and brain functions in health and diseases. Neuroscience stands at the forefront of biology in the exploration of some of the most profound questions concerning living systems. The understanding of how nervous systems function and how they generate integrative behavior and cognition remain one of the most difficult challenges in science today.
Job Summary
This Research Tech II will join a team of researchers and technicians that conduct research related to longevity, healthspan and circadian rhythm. Will work under the direction of research staff to ensure project goals and daily tasks involving mice to include equipment set-up, husbandry, health checks, body weight, behavioral tests, MRI and frailty assessment. Must be experienced in mouse husbandry and mouse health assessment. Will train to operate technical automated feeding equipment and utilize specialized software to assess autofeeding and welfare of mice. Will assist other research projects under the direction of a senior researcher with mouse husbandry and equipment set-up for cage changes. Will be assigned general laboratory tasks to be completed on a weekly basis.
Must be able to work Sat/Sun on a rotating schedule with other technicians resulting in 1 or 2 weekend days per month at one day each.
Candidates must be comfortable in handling of laboratory mice.
Experience and Education
Job Duties
Performs routine scientific and medical research work in science areas such as biology, chemistry, physics, or other related scientific field.
Assembles and/or operates various laboratory equipment and apparatus.
Records research data in accordance with prescribed procedures, discussing results with supervisor.
Assists in collection of data for project reports.
Reads literature and confers with supervisor concerning implementation of new procedures.
May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of laboratory personnel of lower grade engaged in limited phase of research project.
Performs other duties as assigned.
