Job Summary

The Dr. Vivian Lee laboratory in the Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Research Technician II to join our team. As a part of the Department of Pediatrics and the Division of Cardiology, our lab focuses on understanding the genetic determinants of cardiovascular development and disease. We utilize genome editing techniques to model human disease in cell culture and mouse models, aiming to uncover the molecular mechanisms contributing to cardiovascular pathogenesis.

Principle duties and responsibilities for this position will include:

  • Oversee and organize lab resources, operations, and new member onboarding to ensure efficient and sustainable lab function.

  • Perform a variety of laboratory techniques including but not limited to mammalian cell culture, cloning, nucleic acid extraction, PCR, qRT-PCR, immunoblotting, and immunohistochemistry.

  • Record and maintain an organized lab notebook.

  • Present finding in small group meetings and at national and international meetings when appropriate.

  • We are looking for a candidate capable of providing technical support to senior lab members while helping maintain the lab. This position is ideal for recent college graduates seeking to gain more research experience before pursuing a PhD or MD/PhD.

Experience and Education

  • Bachelor's degree with major coursework in field of assignment and no experience required. OR
  • Two (2) years college with emphasis in coursework in field of assignment and two (2) years of laboratory experience at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent. OR
  • High school graduation or GED and four (4) years laboratory experience to include two (2) years at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent.

Job Duties

  • Performs routine scientific and medical research work in science area such as biology, chemistry, physics, or other related scientific field.

  • Assembles and/or operates various laboratory equipment and apparatus.

  • Records research data in accordance with prescribed procedures, discussing results with supervisor.

  • Assists in collection of data for project reports.

  • Reads literature and confers with supervisor concerning implementation of new procedures.

  • May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of laboratory personnel of lower grade engaged in limited phase of research project.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
