The Hsieh Lab in the Division of Human Biology at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is looking for a highly motivated Research Technician II, who is interested in studying how the way cells make proteins or protein synthesis control ultimately determine specific behaviors that can lead to and potentiate cancer. Our work will include mechanistic studies in cell lines, mouse models, and human tissue samples with the ultimate goal of learning how to target and drug the protein synthesis machinery.

The individual will be responsible for performing investigative lab work at the bench alongside Dr. Hsieh, postdoctoral fellows and other staff in the lab. The ability to work in a team will be essential.

Responsibilities

The technician will work under the direction of the Dr. Hsieh and other laboratory personnel.

The candidate's time will be divided into two parts: 75% effort to conduct cutting edge research and 25% effort for laboratory maintenance. Laboratory maintenance will include maintaining the lab's regulatory documentation and assisting with lab ordering. It is anticipated that a strong candidate will be able to conduct molecular assays on their own with input from Dr. Hsieh and other lab members.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BS or higher level of education in a scientific field

  • Must have scientific knowledge in the area of biological science and basic laboratory skills

  • Must have scientific curiosity, a high level of self-motivation, the ability to take instruction and correction and to follow directions, good organizational skills, and wants to stay at least two years

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Undergraduate academic success indicated by a strong grade point average will be taken in to consideration

  • Ability to work independently and perform experiments with supervision will be required after training

  • Familiarity and expertise in cell/tissue culture, PCR, western blots, genotyping, DNA/RNA isolation and extraction, and human and mouse immunohistochemistry.

  • A history of mouse work including management of a mouse colony is strongly preferred. Mouse work in the Hsieh Lab will include maintenance of breeder lines, xenograft and PDX assays, drug treatments, and collection of tissues.

  • Prior research experience in a laboratory in addition to school lab experience is required (greater than or equal to 2 years).

  • Highly organized individual

The hourly pay range for this position is from $25.71 to $36.60 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
