Occupational Summary

Perform a variety of technical duties involved in conducting physical, experiments and determinations to obtain data in support of research laboratory equipment required for chemical or biological tests, oriented activities; compile and document procedures and results. Perform a variety of technical duties involved in conducting standardized tests, experiments and determinations in support of research oriented activities at Duke

Work Performed

  • Maintain sufficient inventory of materials, supplies and equipment for performance of duties;

  • Operate various electronic devices in the collection, tabulation and specific tests.

  • Set up instruments, material and apparatus and operatestandard calculation of data.

  • Obtain, prepare, mount and stain tissue, blood and other substances for microscopic examinations.

  • Prepare culture media, chemicals, reagents and solutions.

  • Assist in the development of new research maintain standard laboratory equipment.

  • Review work of lower level laboratory personnel and assist in the training of new personnel.

  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Assists users in solving problems using available hardware and software tools. Supports, installs, and maintains personal computers, local area networks, operating systems, software, and related IT-sanctioned peripherals. Principal Responsibilities: * Provides rotational on-site support for Dell/Dell EMC's offices in Research Triangle Park, Durham and Apex. * Diagnoses problems and fully supports (installs, troubleshoots, configures and repairs) a variety of internal and third party applications for client workstations and servers in both the desktop and lab environments * Responsible for imaging and software installs on end user devices * Performs data and/or application backup and verification as necessary * Identifies network issues as it relates to end user device * Evaluates system configuration and software to ensure effective use of hardware resources * Addresses and resolves hardware, software and customer issues * Responsible for installation, support and maintenance of routine hardware/software systems and supporting large user groups * Responsible for supporting and troubleshooting hardware/software applications * Assists in testing applications, service packs, and patches prior to corporate wide release * Assists in testing/implementing applications for wide-scale data communication networks (wired and wireless) for internal company needs * Assists in selection and evaluation of hardware and software * Analyzes basic business needs and recommends ways to optimize PC hardware resources in achieving business objectives * Supports, maintains, and installs local area network server systems * Manages local IT equipment in the global Asset Management database; consults with Global Real Estate & Facilities team in preparation of cabling and design for Facility projects * Provides positive customer experience with each customer interaction * Operates without significant supervision resolving routine IT tasks with no direction Required: * 1+ years experience in managing end-user computing environment in a "hands-on" enterprise environment including troubleshooting and hardware replacement experience * Experience doing break/fix support * Must have a solid knowledge base of Windows 7 and/or Windows 10 as well as Microsoft Office suite applications * Must have excellent customer orientation skills, proven organizational abilities and be able to work in a fast-paced environment * Strong communication and interpersonal skills * Strong organizational and prioritization skills, ability to juggle and track many tasks and complete them in a timely manner * Ability to work well as part of a team, sharing research, knowledge and leading practices with team members * Must be legally authorized to work in the US with no restrictions; visa sponsorship not offered with this position * Must be able to participate in on-call rotations Preferred: * A+ certification preferred * Experience with Service Now a plus * ITIL concepts preferred Benefits We offer highly competitive salaries, bonus programs, world-class benefits, and growth and development opportunities — all to create a compelling and rewarding work environment.
