JOB SUMMARY:

The purpose of this position is to support agricultural research, Official Variety Trials and the SC Crop Improvement by installing research plots, OVT trials and assisting in the production and conditioning of Foundation Seed. Other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:

25% - Essential: Installing and harvesting research plots and demonstration plots at various locations and cooperating with personnel at those locations during such operations.

25% - Essential: Using appropriate computer programs for labeling, packaging, taking field notes, keeping records of field operations and arranging seedlots for seeding and storage, preparing field notebooks, field diagrams, and plot labels to insure proper identification and location of experiments and accuracy of field plot data.

20% - Essential: Operation, routine maintenance, repair and calibration of research-oriented specialty equipment and traditional agricultural equipment and facilities. Development of specialized research equipment items as needed.

20% - Essential: Inspection of all experimental plots and demonstrations to determine the need for cultivation, pest control, weed control and other cultural practices and initiates Implementation of needed practices.

10% - Essential: Assist in the planting, tending, harvesting, transporting, cleaning and packaging of crop seed produced for the South Carolina Crop Improvement Association.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor's Degree- Animal husbandry, agriculture or a related field and experience in agricultural research or animal care that is directly related to the area of employment. Work experience in animal care or agricultural research may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

Education: Bachelor's Degree- Agronomy, or related field.

No Supervisory Duties- Not responsible for supervising employees.

No Budget Responsibilities- No fiscal responsibility for the department's budget.

COMPENSATION INFORMATION

Anticipated Salary:$36,800 - $41,000

Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL

Essential Level 2 employee

Required to maintain/resume essential support functions, deliver direct care services, and/or provide recovery support before normal operations resume. Some positions in this category may be required to work remotely or be on-call.
