Caltech is a world-renowned science and engineering institute that marshals some of the world's brightest minds and most innovative tools to address fundamental scientific questions. We thrive on finding and cultivating talented people who are passionate about what they do.
Join us and be a part of the diverse Caltech community. Job Summary Caltech's Single Cell Profiling and Engineering Center (SPEC) seeks a dedicated Research Technician to perform single-cell and single-nucleus RNA, ATAC and multiome library preps, and to carry out single-cell fluorescent in situ hybridization experiments on cells and tissues. This is a high traffic position, handling diverse animal and plant specimens contributed by over 30 experienced Caltech researchers.
The successful candidate must have excellent communication and time management skills and be willing to shift focus as research priorities evolve. The successful candidate will receive instruction in preparing samples for automated seq-FISH experiments, and in library prep protocols for both the 10x Genomics and SPLiT-seq single cell and nucleus platforms as well as ancillary QC and trouble-shooting diagnostic assays. Clear, well-organized, and accurate recording and reporting of library production results is required for feedback to collaborating researchers who will be developing sample prep protocols with the Center.
Essential Job Duties Run single-cell RNA, ATAC & multiome protocols, and collect QC data for feedback to primary researchers. Prepare sample tissues/cells for automated seqFISH experiments. Guide and assist graduate students and postdocs in running single-cell genomics protocols.
Attend weekly planning meetings. Give feedback to the Center director to develop or improve protocols for single-cell analysis and manipulation. During off-peak hours, responsible for maintaining the lab in good working order, including ordering supplies, maintaining equipment, keeping the area clean and compliance with relevant safety procedures.
Basic Qualifications BS degree. 1 year of relevant work experience. Preferred Qualifications Fluency in the current academic literature in the fields of functional and spatial genomics, machine learning, immunology and oncology are desirable. If the candidate does not have experience harvesting and dissociating mice and other tissues, they must be willing to learn. Required Documents Resume
