About Us
This Research Technician C will work as part of the New York Center for Rare Diseases (NYCRD). They will perform cell culture, including maintenance of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and their in vitro differentiation. They will perform CRISPR editing of cell lines, including to replicate variants identified in NYCRD patients, and will perform appropriate functional studies to test whether the variants are causing damage. The person appointed to the role will also perform RT-PCR to check for splicing defects, PCR to validate the results of whole genome sequencing, and will learn to prepare libraries for massively-parallel DNA and RNA sequencing. They will monitor the cell culture environment for infectious agents that could potentially contaminate cultures, and will manage the supplies and general organization of the cell culture space. They will maintain the equipment of the main laboratory and the organization and cleanliness of that space. They will maintain an electronic laboratory notebook and electronic documents representing standard operating procedures (SOPs) and protocols for the laboratory. The position requires being on-site. The NYCRD actively promotes career advancement and will encourage the candidate to describe a plan for professional growth that we can foster.
