Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator and/or laboratory manager, provides routine technical support to manage a mouse colony and perform routine molecular biology techniques for the study of the red blood cell disorders.
Provides a wide variety of moderately complex to complex molecular biology technical support for a research facility. Assists in evaluating research methods, procedures, and techniques based on established objectives. Provides assistance in manipulating, computing, and analyzing data using complex statistical computer software. Performs library research. Assists in instructing members of laboratory in research methods, procedures and safety.
Responsibilities*
Management of mouse colony including breeding to maintain and organize multiple transgenic and wild type strains, weaning, ear tag, collection of samples for genotyping, blood draw, injections, euthanasia, tamoxifen administration.
Molecular biology techniques (PCR, western blot), assist with cell culture.
Manage the activities of 1-2 undergraduate employees.
Participate in laboratory meetings.
Provide technical support according to the overall project goals as developed by Principal Investigator.
Manage laboratory safety/regulatory documents, updating standard operating procedures, ordering laboratory supplies.
Collects, analyzes, and processes research data.
Assists in report writing.
Sets up equipment and materials for course instruction.
Performs routine library work, including finding literature and copying articles.
Required Qualifications*
HS Diploma or Assoc Degree
At least 1 year of experience
Responsible, reliable and trustworthy individual with excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Must demonstrate ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Show initiative and ability to learn new skills or techniques.
Desired Qualifications*
BS Degree in Cell and Developmental Biology or Related Field
Additional Information
This is a 2-year term-limited position, with the possibility of extension. At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate, and will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits. This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.
If the extension is not granted the appointment will be terminated and will not be eligible for Reduction in Force (RIF) benefits.
