Overview

The Research Tech, Infectious Disease will work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator to perform research in the field of infectious and inflammatory diseases in the laboratory of Dr. David Perlin.

Research is related to drug discovery against multidrug resistant bacterial infections, mechanisms of antifungal drug resistance, studies of drug action at sites of infection, rapid detection of drug resistant bloodstream and respiratory pathogens in high-risk patients, and the application of small animal models for high-threat pathogens. Key areas of focus include: a. Drug discovery against multidrug resistant bacteria causing both systemic and wound infections. b.

Rapid detection of respiratory and bloodstream infections and associated resistance markers. c. Developing and running BSL2/BSL3 small animal infection models for bacterial, fungal and viral pathogens. d. Delivering small animal infection models for ESKAPE, TB and select agent bacterial pathogens to evaluate lead compounds.

The research program incorporates both basic preclinical and translational research and is aimed towards clinical translation of its most promising discoveries. The successful Research Tech, Infect and Inflammatory Diseases candidate will conduct basic or translational research under the supervision of a full-time Associate Scientist. This position will also be responsible for the purchasing of supplies and reagents necessary for all studies maintaining adequate stocks of all the supplies and reagents. The Research Tech, Infect Diseases will be required to maintain detailed protocols and records of data related to executed laboratory work, organizing and maintaining the lab space, and communicating issues to the Associate Scientist, Laboratory Manager, or Department Administrative Assistant.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

1.Bachelor's degree or equivalent training.

2.Minimum of 1 years of relevant experience.

3.Individual must be able to work independently and have strong work ethic.

4.Required computer and organizational skills in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

5.Must be flexible in work schedule. Must be available to occasionally come to the laboratory on a weekend day for a few hours or stay late in evenings for a given experiment.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

1.Master's degree.

2.Experience working with animal infection models in infectious disease and working in a BSL2/BSL3 lab facility. 3. Experience with small animal handling.

VIEW JOBS 5/21/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-08-19T00:00 Overview The Research Nurse Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that the clinical research is conducted according to the research design including, but not limited to screening and recruitment of patients, collecting and records of clinical data, maintaining regulatory binders and overall safety of human subjects. Responsibilities 1. Assists in the preparation of new protocols. 2. Assures that all protocol revisions, informed consents, continuing reviews, serious adverse events are reported in a timely manner. 3. Acts as liaison between principal investigators and sub-investigators on all regulatory issues and changes within the protocol. 4. Facilitates all audits of study with staff of Hackensack University Medical Center, sponsor, FDA, and other regulatory agencies. 5. Reviews studies for feasibility and for competing protocols prior to submitting study. 6. Reviews study with principal investigator to determine standard vs. research costs and assists in budget preparation. 7. Screens subjects/patients for entry criteria, coordinates subject/patient schedules with investigators, and protocol schedules. 8. Performs vital signs, and handles and ships lab specimens as outlined in the clinical program. 9. Assists investigator with consent process assuring patients understand clinical trials. 10. Monitors response to treatment and for any adverse events. 11. Reports all serious adverse events to sponsor and IRB. 12. Maintains accurate, complete, up-to-date records on each patient participating in a clinical protocol. 13. Prepares for sponsor monitor site visits and ensures all supporting documentation records are adequate and available for the visit. 14. Develops case report forms and/or databases for in-house studies as needed. 15. Assists the principal investigator in data collection for writing abstracts, papers, and presentations. 16. Provides education to all departments and clinical areas where study is performed. 17. Adheres to the American Nurses Association standards. 18. Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.). 19. Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies. Qualifications Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: 1. Graduate of a NLN/AACN accredited program in nursing. 2. 3-5 years clinical nursing experience. 3. Mandatory education on human subjects research.
