Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist V for the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. The primary purpose of the Research Teaching Specialist position is to assist the Cancer Institute of New Jersey's multidisciplinary Precision Medicine Oncology Clinical Research Team with collecting data from clinical trials. This position is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of information transcribed from patient medical records onto study specific case report forms or into electronic data capture systems. This position also supports research activities, tracks subject enrollment, and assists in program activities. Ensures protocol compliance per Food and Drug Administration (FDA), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines, Office for Human Research Protection (OHRP), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), institutional guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs) set forth by Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey and Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS).

Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Works with complex computerized records systems and maintains security and integrity.

  • In collaboration with the study clinical provider, Program Manager, Research Assistants, Data Uniformity Specialists, and Lab Technicians, obtains source documents (i.e. medical record documentation) as needed.

  • Submits x-rays, pathology reports and any other specialized reports as needed.

  • Collects request for data access per various PMO trials.

  • Maintains research record (e.g. patient consent, eligibility, Case Report Forms (CRF), registration confirmation, corresponding source documents, etc.) for all patients enrolled in the Cancer Institute of New Jersey clinical trials. This includes, but is not limited to, Cancer Institute of New Jersey Network centers (Cancer Institute of New Jersey investigator-initiated trials), affiliates, community physicians' offices and hospitals.

  • Uses research databases efficiently to complete assigned tasks.

  • As needed, attends training classes for understanding program.

  • Enters data into the relevant data collection forms as per established protocol or project timelines. For protocols, this time should not exceed 10 days after each human subject visit.

  • Completes queries re:to data inconsistencies and revises case report forms in compliance with standard operating procedures.

  • Using Oncore, provides regular reports to the Precision Medicine Oncology (PMO/CIPT) members and Principal Investigator on all studies to which he/she is assigned.

  • Organizes, facilitates and attends all internal ORIEN and Precision Medicine meetings, including MTB.

  • Communicate with presenters to obtain patients for presentations.

  • Create meeting agenda and track attendees.

  • Communicate with BRS for study enrollment.

  • Link to Genetic Counseling to facilitate referrals for testing.

  • Provides administrative support to the PMO program.

  • Scheduling meetings and activities specific to PMO and ORIEN.

  • Actively participates in weekly Precision Medicine Oncology (PMO/CIPT) meetings and conference calls (if applicable).

  • Communicates effectively with staff and outside agencies and assists in the promotion of teamwork.

  • Actively participates in ongoing research specific quality assurance activities such as chart audits for protocol compliance.

  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge and adheres to policies and procedures set forth by RBHS, Cancer Institute of New Jersey, Food and Drug Administration, and all relevant regulatory bodies.

  • Understands and adheres to Rutgers' compliance standards as they appear in RBHS's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.

  • Understands, demonstrates and models the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey core values.

  • Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Rutgers's compliance standards as they appear in RBHS's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Interest policy.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant science.

Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Prior research experience an asset.

  • The ideal candidate will be detail orientated, have excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills, hold self-accountable to high standards of professional excellence, be able to maximize resources and be resourceful, seeks and accepts personal and professional responsibility on a continued basis.

  • Effective oral and communication skills.

  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Oncore. Must adjust hours to meet demands.
