Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in psychology, biology, neuroscience, or a related field or degree in hand by June 2024. Research activity experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Experience working on a research study or clinical trial with patients. Experience with Microsoft Office. Research experience specifically in industry-sponsored studies.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Research Support Specialist (RSS) will be part of a department dedicated to improving the lives of those with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. The RSS will collaborate with clinicians and researchers in the Department of Psychiatry.
Within the department, multiple studies, sponsored by industry, the National Institute of Health (NIH) and other funding agencies, are performed in order to better understand, diagnose and treat illnesses like mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's disease. The RSS will directly interact with study participants, including recruiting participants, performing screenings and scheduling participant appointments. The RSS will accompany participants to clinical appointments at Stony Brook Medicine.
The RSS will also carefully maintain participant data in an electronic and written form (database and documents) and ensure compliance with all Institutional Review Board policies. The RSS will also be responsible for training junior research team members.
The environment is cutting-edge, collaborative and educational. The role of the RSS is critical in ensuring a calm and pleasant experience for all participants.
As such, the RSS is a critical part of the study team. The successful incumbent must have excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, as well as the ability to multi-task and strong attention to detail.
Duties:
Coordinate with external industry sponsors and vendors, including monitoring visits, answering queries, troubleshooting and more.
Recruit, consent, screen, and schedule research participants. Coordinate with study team members and departments (e.g., Pharmacy, Radiology...etc.) and schedule appointments.
Track participants' appointments and study completion as well as accompany participants to appointments and conduct study visits.
Monitor participant progress; and prepare agendas for meetings discussing participant progress.
Maintain collected data in electronic/paper databases and manage regulatory and source documents. Track and order study specific supplies and handle biological specimens.
Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission
