The summer student in this position will be trained in laboratory methods. This job entails studying mycobacterial lipids using chemical and biological tools.
This includes assisting with and independently performing experiments using bacterial culture methods, mass spectrometry, and other phenotypic analyses. The project primarily focuses of the effect of genetic deletions in lipid biosynthetic, regulatory, and transport systems in mycobacteria.
Duties include:
1.Culturing avirulent mycobacteria
2.Bacterial lipid isolation
3.HPLC-MS analysis of total lipids
4.Bioinformatic analysis of mass spectrometry data
Essential qualifications and qualities:
1.College student in good standing
2.Experience in chemistry and/or biology lab and classroom coursework
3.Engaged and reliable team member and communicator
4.Interested in learning new skills and being active in a scientific community
Preferred qualifications:
1.Professional experience in a team environment
2.Experience with bacterial culture
