Part of IBM Almaden Research Center, re*THINK Enterprise research group aims to create disruptive innovations that address industry and business challenges that IBM and clients face. We take a user-centered approach to innovation, starting from design thinking workshops, interviews and observations to understand problems, root causes and user perspectives and then proceeding in an agile, iterative manner to design, prototype, develop and deploy solutions for direct impact. Given the nature of the problems we take on, our projects are staffed by people from different background and disciplines, including business, design, engineering, social science, machine learning, among others.
The research group is looking to fill a position for Research Staff Member to take an overall lead on user research across the project portfolio. More specifically, when a new project is initiated, the researcher will conduct foundational research where target users are observed and interviewed to understand their needs and work with other team members to turn design and technical decisions into research propositions and hypotheses for validation.
When a project is released to testing and production, the researcher will perform empirical studies to evaluate design choices, assess usability and analyze user behaviors, with the goal to further improve user adoption and increase business impact, as well as generate patent disclosures and technical publications. The researcher will be the go-to person for knowledge and experience in user research methodology, including various methods, techniques and tools, and will be instrumental to the team's problem-solving, research-driven, evidence-based project approach.
