A Resreach Specialist (Non-Laboratory) is sought to work hands on with non-human primates at Yerkes National Primate Research Center.
There is not any lab/bench work involved with this position, but a four year college degree in biology, zoology or animal science is preferred.
Experience working with animals - handling animals and giving injections, collecting blood and other biological samples is strongly desired.
Good observational and organizational skills are essential.
Must be able to work independently and as a team in accomplishing daily tasks.
Must have a good working knowledge of research design and implementation, pay close attention to detail and accuracy, have good writing skills, neat penmanship and excellent communication skills.
Must be able to move rapidly from one task to another.
Flexibility within daily structure is essential to meet the needs of varying research protocols.
FORMAL JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision, performs a variety of defined research according to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules.
Sets up experiments as prescribed by a principal investigator.
May be required to participate in laboratory maintenance activities such as sterilization and cleaning of equipment, ordering of supplies, inventory and media preparation.
Maintains records, files and logs of work performed in laboratory notebooks and computer databases.
Compiles data and records results of studies for publications, grants and seminar presentations.
Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take specific precautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents.
Performs related responsibilities as required by principal investigator.
ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:
Work environment is in primate facilities (animal biosafety level 2 and 2+) and in a communal office at the Yerkes National Primate Research Center on Emory's Main Campus.
Work hours are 7:30 am 4:00 pm, Monday - Friday with flexibility needed to come in earlier as needed.
Evening, weekend and holiday work is required on a rotating basis.
