Research Scientist
The BWH Department of Neurology is looking to conduct a clinical research study surrounding menstrual migraines and is seeking a Research Scientist, responsibilities would be as outlined below.
Objectives:
Working in partnership with the Principal Investigator in the management, development, and execution of the project.
Promote and maintain high standards of patient care.
Assist with patient care issues.
Chart patient progress and maintain detailed, accurate health records.
Lend support to the lead physician, collaborating with the team as needed.
Responsibilities:
Exams may include the following:
Screening patients, patient randomization, reviewing inclusion and exclusion criteria, performing a neurological exam (fundal and reflex), performing medical history, reviewing and recording demographic characteristics and medication and treatment, taking vital signs, ordering pregnancy tests, informing patients of study restrictions and compliance requirements, work with patient to complete study related surveys and online headache diary.
Receive and administer study drug or placebo.
Interpreting laboratory tests.
Work in collaboration with the PI.
Maintain professional and technical knowledge via Continuing Medical Education credits or equivalent in country of hire.
Protect patient confidentiality, maintain ethics, and abide by all applicable laws.
Skills and Qualifications:
MS degree or equivalent education in scientific field of research.
Five to seven years of direct research experience.
Demonstrated proficiency, which may include licensure and/or certification.
Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology, and procedural techniques.
Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Analytical thinking skills with the ability to investigate and diagnose.
Competence with technology and ability to use various tools in the clinical setting.
Professionalism with excellent communication and customer service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Must be currently licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Physician Assistant.
Must have or be eligible for and maintain a current DEA registration and Massachusetts Controlled Substance Registration.
One or more years of background experience in the related specialty.
Flexible schedule and availability.
Experience working independently, as a liaison, and as part of a team.
Active learner with a desire and willingness to continue education and training.
Understanding the legal aspects of confidentiality, patient care, and clinical trials.
PI may assign other duties and responsibilities. Work requirements and schedules must be discussed with the PI to ensure that the work priorities can be accomplished in the 4 hours allotted monthly for this position over 2 years. Once the funding for this study runs out, the position will be terminated.
