Job Description
JOB DUTIES: Responsible for the development, execution and optimization of plant tissue culture and genetic transformation experiments and projects on requested crops.
Follow and update schedule on working plan assuring traceability and product delivery, to include laboratory and field components. Help direct the Transformation Facility. Oversee administrative and executive roles related to budget, fee for service business model, client relationship (both internal to Texas A&M AgriLife, IPGB as well as external clients) and long-term strategic plan.
Manage new growth chambers. Support research labs for space use and time period optimization. Record and monitor users and fees.
Work with outside contractors to maintain facilities to the best-possible standard of performance. Supervise and train undergraduates, graduate students and postdocs. Develop and optimize DNA transformation processing procedures including data analysis in a fee for service framework.
Utilize computer models to facilitate and evaluate data as needed and perform computer functions for fiscal operations of service. Perform other job-related duties as required.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree, or equivalent, in Agricultural Engineering, Plant Sciences or related field.
Eight (8) years (96 months) of experience in an agricultural research assistant or plant scientist position.
Preferred Experience:
Optimizing plant transformation, tissue culture, and regeneration protocols to improve the efficiency of plant transformation and regeneration of major crop plants.
Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
Good communication and computer skills
Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others
