Position Description
Advertised Job Summary
Working closely with the investigator and other laboratory staff, the successful applicant will conduct experiments focusing on RNA and protein transport in neurons including RNA and protein analysis, using both from molecular and cellular biology approaches. Provide support for mouse and rat studies, including assisting with mice colony oversight (with PCR-based genotyping) and surgical procedures.
Order research supplies and prepare solutions. Assist in writing animal use protocols, biosafety protocols, and radiation programs to keep the lab fully compliant with state and federal guidelines. Maintenance of research and laboratory records and helping to train and supervise undergraduate and graduate students work in the laboratory.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in area of specialty, such as Biological Sciences.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences or related field and 2 years of experience, preferably in microbiological techniques.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Great organization skills; The ability to work autonomously; Excellent time management skills; Must be trained in aseptic technique; Basic knowledge of how to prepare microbiological specialty media.

Job Duty
Perform rodent survival surgery for nerve injury, spinal cord injury, and optic nerve injury - this includes anesthetization, surgical site preparations, surgery, and post-operative monitoring.

Assist with preparations of primary neuronal cultures - this includes euthanizing rodents per approved methods, dissection, isolation of tissues, dissociation, and culture

Assist with maintenance and genotyping of genetically modified mouse colonies - this includes oversight of breeding, maintaining lines, preparation for experiments in terms of needed mouse numbers, and genotyping of mouse lines
