Riverside County's Department of Behavioral (Mental) Health, is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of RESEARCH SPECIALIST I. Incumbents will join the Research and Evaluation Unit located in Riverside. The ideal candidate will have the ability to: research and perform data analysis using SPSS software or other database systems, SQL and data collection, report creation, conduct formal research evaluations, design, maintain, query from databases, report findings and data.

Candidates with the following knowledge, skills and abilities are encouraged to apply:

Knowledge of databases.

Strong data management skills in the following software: SAS, SQL, SPSS, Access and Excel

Knowledge and experience in research design, data collection, data analysis, and statistical analysis.

Report writing.

The Research Manager is responsible for managing and conducting research and data analysis for a variety of organizational projects and initiatives, working in close coordination with the director, associate director, research staff, and community partners. Successful candidates will demonstrate excellent project management skills, a track record of overseeing multiple streams of work, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. A strong attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines are required. The initial expected appointment duration is one year with the possibility of continuation contingent upon funding and satisfactory performance. The budgeted amount for this position is about $82,000 in salary. Education Education Requirements Degree Requirement Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Required Master's degree, or significant research experience, in public policy, the social sciences, or related fields Preferred Experience Experience Requirement 2 Years of experience working with geographic data, geographic information systems, and geographic databases in a professional setting. Preferred 2 Years managing team research. Preferred 4 Years as a researcher in a related field and a demonstrated record of producing successful reports for a variety of audiences. Experience must include the application of quantitative methods and qualitative methods, as well as data visualization. Required 4 - 7 years of related experience. Required Minimum Requirements Thorough skills associated with statistical analysis and systems programming. Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing. Skills in project management. Thorough knowledge of research function. Research skills at a level to evaluate alternate solutions and develop recommendations. Thorough skills in analysis and consultation. Strong interpersonal, communication, facilitation and presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to learn new research methods and software. Demonstrated track record of successful project management. Proven ability to work with diverse communities, leaders and staff. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to take on responsibilities independently with only general supervision. Ability to multi-task under deadlines and work well under pressure. Demonstrated ability to work in a small team setting. Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with statistical software and data visualization Must be able to travel locally and statewide.
