About the Department

The Section of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology provides care for patients and families with acute and chronic medical conditions, or other hematologic diseases, requiring the specialty knowledge and skills of Hematology, Oncology and Stem Cell Transplantation.

Job Summary

The Research Specialist 1 will be involved in a cutting-edge basic and translational cancer research program that utilizes techniques related to genetics, cancer biology, and cellular biology. The specialist will be involved in projects that utilize cellular culture models and next-generation sequencing that carry a high potential to ultimately advance cancer care. The day-to-day work will involve techniques related to tissue culture and sample processing in close collaboration with a group of dedicated colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Tissue culture.

• Maintenance of cell cultures, including adherent and suspension cells, transfections, and CRISPR-edited cell cultures.

• Help maintain stock solutions, and order new supplies.

• Basic bioinformatics pipelines, with an emphasis on next-generation sequencing techniques.

• Collects and enters data. Assists in analysis of data and with preparation of reports, manuscripts, and other documents.

• Complies with institution, state and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives, and mandates.

• Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field (not typically required to have a four-year degree).

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through < 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Education:

• Bachelor's degree.

Experience:

• 1-2 years of relevant research experience in bioinformatics and/or molecular/cellular.
