Job Overview

The Research Specialist 1 contributes to the overall mission and goals of Georgetown University by carrying out grant-funded and cancer center funded research and assisting in experiments related to grant funded research projects.

They are responsible for assigned molecular biology research projects, working under direct supervision of the PI and or other lab personnel.

Applying their advanced skills and proficiency, they perform non-routine and complex laboratory duties for divisional faculty.

Work Interactions and Work Mode Design

Reporting to and receiving general supervision from Dr. Gary Kupfer, M.D., the laboratory PI, the Research Technician 1 assists in the organization of the laboratory and carries out research in complex molecular biology related cancer research.

As well, they may work under the supervision of other lab members, and where appropriate, teach lab protocols and assist with projects as directed by Dr. Kupfer.

As required, they participate in collaborations between the PI's lab and members of other laboratories.

This position has been designated as On Campus. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree - preference for a Master of Science degree

  • 0 to 2 years of work-related laboratory experience in research projects in biology, medicine, or other related sciences

  • Basic molecular biology skills

  • Advanced knowledge and capacity to exercise considerable latitude for independent judgment

  • Ability to perform non-routine and complex laboratory duties that require technical skills and proficiency for divisional faculty
