ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
Criminology is defined as the interdisciplinary scientific study of crime, criminal behavior, and the social control of crime. The Department of Criminology provides a scientific, philosophical, and humanistic approach to the understanding of these subjects in contemporary society.
The Department is committed to a liberal arts education, believing that this pedagogy best prepares students for whatever choices they might make upon graduation. Accordingly, faculty strive to achieve excellence in the dissemination of knowledge, to be at the cutting edge of advances in the field, and to participate with both public and private agencies involved in the prevention and control of deviant behavior. The faculty is dedicated to ensuring that the perspectives of the academic criminologist, the criminal justice professional, the offender, the victim, and society are each critically examined within an academic/scholarly framework.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Within the Trafficking in Persons Research Lab, two projects, the TIPSTR database and BRIGHT project recently received a substantial amount of federal funding to grow and establish these projects throughout the State of Florida. As these projects grow, assistance in planning, implementing, and monitoring and the projects is vital to ensuring their sustainability and success. The primary role of this position is to assist the TIPSTR project director and staff and the BRIGHT project director and staff in carrying out the necessary administrative and research-related tasks, including, but not limited to matters as researching, recommending, and maintaining program standards and eligibility requirements, researching and
accreditation matters, planning events, developing written communications, promoting and marketing programs and events, and administering other special projects in support of significant long-term and short-term objectives aligned with each projects goals and needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serves as a resource person and keeps up-to-date with ongoing projects. Reviews and follows up on pending files and aspects of the projects, manages and monitors status of progress with points of contacts. Tracks performance metrics.
Writes reports and prepares presentations to support and/or promote research
programs. Researches and writes promotional and informational materials for posting on website, social media, and sending to media outlets. Developing written communications, promoting and marketing programs and events, and coordinating logistics
Researching, recommending, and maintaining program standards and eligibility requirements, researching accreditation matters, and administering/carrying out other special projects in support of significant long-term and short-term objectives aligned with each projects' goals and needs.
Serves as a liaison with faculty and Academic Affairs, other colleges, and
departments.
Performs other duties as assigned
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a master's degree in a related field of study, or a bachelor's degree in
those same fields and two years of experience in administrative services. Four additional
years of directly relevant and progressively responsible administrative experience at the
executive level may be substituted for the bachelor's degree.
FLSB1310 Equivalency:
4 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree.
6 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for master's degree.
PREFERRED:
Organizational skills. Strategic planning and scheduling skills.
Time-management skills. Verbal and written communication skills. Critical thinking skills.
Quick-learning skills. Detail-oriented. Preferred degree in Psychology, Criminology, Social Work, Public Health, or another related social sciences field. Existing knowledge of USF systems is preferred.
