Organization The Office of Research Compliance (ORC) group works with various Ohio State stakeholders and researchers to help minimize and manage potential compliance risks in regulatory areas impacting their research activities. ORC reviews and investigates allegations of misconduct in research and scholarly activities; oversees the Faculty Financial Conflict of Interest process; manages the Export Control program; and oversees and manages a variety of other programs and policies involving research.

The Office of Research Information Systems (ORIS) group designs, develops and supports applications and technology services that facilitate the business processes of all units and centers within the Office of Research at the Ohio State University.

Opportunity: Research Security Specialist The Office of Research Compliance (ORC) is seeking a self-motivated, effective communicator and resourceful individual to serve in this newly created role as the Research Security Specialist.

The Research Security Specialist position is an opportunity to serve as a crucial member of the Office of Research Compliance (ORC) group to assist in their research security initiatives through outreach efforts, forensic evidence collection, compliance monitoring, and other related trainings and project support. Also, the position is to work collaboratively with the Office of Research Information Systems (ORIS) security team which works to support local security efforts (applications/infrastructure).

Key responsibilities of this position include effectively meeting and working with a variety of Ohio State customers, documenting requests, finding solutions, and overseeing and implementing security-related directives and projects. The successful candidate will have broad technical knowledge and experience working with aspects of systems and network administration in adherence to the Ohio State Information Security Standard. The Research Security Specialist is expected to develop and maintain technical expertise related to all applicable regulatory IT requirements.

The individual in this role will report to the Office of Research Compliance Associate Vice President and reside in the ORC department.

Performance Objectives
1.Works collaboratively with the Office of Research Information Systems (ORIS) security team to complete the annual Information Security Self-Assessment, assists in the ongoing audit request processes, and organizes, implements and monitors security initiatives within all OR units.
2.Assists in research investigation evidence collection, imaging, forensic analysis, and control plan monitoring and related outreach efforts for the Office of Research Compliance.
3.Writes, reviews, and maintains security-related policies and procedures, and authors security awareness communications and training materials.
4.Serves as a campus technical resource for the implementation of Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), and other protected data types.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of experience in information technology, information security, cybersecurity, or other relevant fields and education. Working knowledge of networking, data storage, encryption, and cloud computing; understanding of forensic imaging and data recovery fundamentals; extensive knowledge of computer security concepts, procedures, and troubleshooting; currently possess or have the ability to receive and maintain a security clearance at Top Secret clearance level.

Desired Qualifications

Desired Qualifications:
Demonstrated working experience with computer imaging and data recovery processes.

Preference given to candidates with Ohio State systems and procedures knowledge. Working knowledge of CIS Benchmarks; working knowledge of Microsoft IIS and WSUS; demonstrated considerable working experience developing policies and procedures such as detailed documentation and training resources for end users. Demonstrated working experience in providing information technology support at an accredited institution of higher learning. Demonstrated working knowledge of NIST Special Publication 800 series (e.g., NIST 800-53 and NIST 800-171), FIPS 199 and 200; Experience with regulatory and legislative authorities including but not limited to HIPAA, FISMA, PII, and FERPA.
