Belcan has a job for a Research Scientist/Engineer with a manufacturing client in Eaton, Ohio. The individual will work in the research and development group developing advanced materials and products for the semiconductor equipment applications.
This development work includes: process development, defect engineering, equipment and hot zone design, equipment modification, software upgrades, and other activities on meeting customer requirements for products. The person in this position is expected to possess expert knowledge in materials science, process engineering, data analysis, and should be good at problem solving. The candidate should be effective in using statistics and measurement tools, project management, documenting work results and procedures, performing supervisory roles. In addition to these technical skills, the suitable candidate is required to be a team player and should work with the team and be result oriented.
Works on the research and development in the field of Crystal Growing to deliver new products and processes, specializes in developing hot zones and processes for growing large diameter crystals and controlling crystal defects, and performs equipment modifications and new designs for crystal growing furnaces, upgrades equipment software.
Works with external suppliers, customers, research facilities and universities on new technologies and reads, analyzes, and interprets the technical documents and literature to maintain up-to-date knowledge about state-of-the-art technologies and innovations in materials science.
Applies mathematical operations to such tasks as the analysis of parameter distributions, determining the test reliability and validity, analysis of variances and correlations, design of experiments, factor analysis, etc.
Utilizes computer applications such as: Word processing, Spreadsheets, Internet, CAD, E-mail, Manufacturing software, Database software and statistical tools.
Applies principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems and deals with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
Assists in the operation of equipment by helping develop preventive maintenance requirements; conferring with manufacturer; maintaining equipment spare part inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
Drives cost reduction and yield improvement projects to assist the department in achieving financial objectives, scheduling expenditures, compiling and studying costs, initiating corrective actions.
Initiates research and development project and executes or guides the development activities and develops new technologies of crystal growth to meet the semiconductor equipment material requirements.
Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data, information and trends.
Masters Degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Chemical or Material Science. PHD preferred
Experience in Silicon Crystal Growing is preferred Knowledge of crystal structure and crystalline defect is preferred.
Knowledge of various crystal growth techniques and crystal quality are preferred.
Experience with root cause analyses and corrective/preventive actions.
Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and other process control techniques and functions.
Understanding of methods of material characterization and defect analysis.
